    Hi,
I am new to the forum. This is my first post.
I recently got an Samsung LCD TV. I want to connect my laptop to the LCD TV.
What cable is recommended? Is DVI to HDMI cable okay? Some of them say that you cannot audio out of it. I also want to hear audio from the files or movies i run on my laptop.
Any help in this is regard is highly appreciated.

    thanks.

Your laptop has DVI out? Most have VGA. Audio is run separately.

VGA usually is preferred for computer connection. DVI-I connectors can output DVI-D or VGA (with adapter).

What inputs does the LG have and what resolutions are supported? You may need to download the manual to find out.

As for laptop, can it output 720p or 1080i over DVI-D? If not use VGA.

Do mean the monitor output as the DVI out? If thats the case i do have one. I use it to connect to projectors. As far as my LCD TV I have the following resolutions supported:
    1080i (HDTV),
    480i (SDTV),
    480p (EDTV),
    720p (HDTV).

    Other specs for Input are:
    A/V (Composite),
    Analog Coaxial(RF),
    Component Video,
    HDMI,
    S-Video,
    VGA

Is this the info you asked?
How can I connect it now. What cables do i need to buy and run my laptop on LCD TV with the audio?

    Thanks for your reply.

Most LCD TV sets have 1366x768 LCD panels, so send 720p over DVI-D. If you send 1080i the TV would need to deinterlace and downsize. Not so good.

The DVI-D to HDMI connection is likely to have 3-10% overscan. TV sets do that. It will likely crop off the edges of the desktop.

Your laptop probably came with a DVI-I to VGA adapter. If the LCD TV has VGA in, that is usually intended for PC desktop display (usually without TV overscan). If the LCD panel native resolution is 1366x768, send 1366x768 from the computer. Some cards only do 1360x768. Get as close as you can.

That way, your Powerpoint presentation won't be cropped around the sides.
