I can't seem to figure out how to access the region hack that is mentioned on this page:

That is for the same player, just the black model.

Please report back to tell me if it works or not as I am keen to buy one of these players in the next couple days.

Do I have to use a certain remote to do this? I don't know what the "magic button" is.

Yes, it is a one for all (http://www.ofausa.com/) programmable remote.

Yes, you need a "One For All" remote that has a "magic" button and a "DVD" button. Not all OFAs have those buttons so check before you buy.

Also, the OP doesn't give his/her country so bear in mind that you can only make a Sony player truly multiregion if it is a PAL player for region 2 or 4 - and those will then be able to play both PAL and NTSC DVDs.

It is also possible to generate those five special IR codes needed for the hack with a Palm Pilot or a laptop with an IR port. Details in this thread:

Although it is known that Sony NTSC players can only ever play NTSC DVDs, it is possible that the above hack will allow the player to play NTSC disks from other regions. Say a Japanese NTSC disk on a US-bought player. So if you do try the hack, tell us what happens.

Can Someone please tell me how to make my Sony DVD Player Sony DVP-NS50P region free, i bought it from malaysia the saleman conned me by saying it is region free. Sony india are refusing to make this model region free as this was purchased outside india.
PLease help..any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance.
