Happy Holidays everyone. Just bought new dual layer burner (Pioneer 710) and am ready to back up my first DL disc from my personal original DVD. Can someone please tell me the best process and recommended software to use for best results. I did buy Verbatim DL discs as I understand these are the best. Thanks so much for your help.

eyedoctor2 thank you very much for your reply and help. Is there anything special I need to download or configure within my computer or dvd burner prior to following your recommended procedure. I know with single layer dvdrs you have to download aspi, enable dma, etc. Is there anything like this I need to do in regard to preparation for DVDR DL discs? Thank you once again.

Making sure your drive is in DMA mode is one.

I'm using those same programs on XP SP2 and don't have an ASPI loaded - just the native SPTI. Just an FYI; I believe in ImgBurn you can select which one the program will use.

Jim thank you for the reply. Can you also tell me how to check my DMA to make sure it is in one. Thank you.

I think if you follow the instructions for ripit4me and image burn you should have no problems. They really are pretty straight forwards.

If you have any problems once you get started just post!

To get DMA status download: http://www.softpedia.com/get/CD-DVD-Tools/CD-DVD-Rip-Other-Tools/Nero-InfoTool.shtml

IIRC, go into Device Manager and select the IDE channel that your DVD drive is on. Right click on "Properties" and look at the "Advanced Settings" tab. Choices are either "DMA" or "PIO" - you want "DMA".

For further info, search the forums, I know it's been discussed before.
