  1. I download a lot of HD content, usually in 1080i. I play these through my xbox 360 connected to my 1080i panasonic plasma. Lately I've noticed a lot more 1080p content which obviously doesn't play. Is there a way to downconvert 1080p to 1080i?

    Thanks in advance

    Kev

PS, please don't sugest getting a 1080p tv, I haven't long bought this one.

The xbox should be able to send a 1080i signal to your TV, so the issue is purely one of whether or not the xbox can play 1080p material. Have you tested this, or are you just assuming it wont work ?

  3. Yes I've tried. Interestingly the first movie I tried did work but whenever there was an explosion or muzzle flash onscreen frames were dropped making it unwatchable. Since then every 1080p movie I've tried has just displayed a blank screen. I am connected via component, the 360 can do 1080p via vga but I don't see the point in getting a vga lead as like I said the tv is 1080i anyway. There must be a program out there that can convert the image down to interlaced 1080?

I still don't see any reason to have to downconvert the video. Sounds like an xbox issue. You need to verify the xbox can actually play the files you are downloading. Even if the xbox can play the files, you still have an xbox issue. If the xbox only outputs up to 1080i on component, then the xbox should be doing the conversion (up or down) of your source material to your designated output resolution. I don't have an xbox 360, but I would expect you should have some control over the output (resolution) on the different interfaces.

  5. i would say,if you have component connected, and 1080i selected in the dashboard, then its either the movie itself,or a problem with the tv,downscaling to 1080i..
either way,id get my hands on a vga lead, and set it up to 1360x768,if thats the panel resolution you have..picture will look better, and might play better..
one other thing..is the xbox set to 1080i with 50 or 60hz..i dont know where you live, but im in the uk,and set mine to on component PAL60hz(PAL 50hz is far too laggy for 1080p video)...but much greater prefer 1920x1080vga,as i have a 1080p lcd.
