This is the region free firmware for the Philips DVP3050V/75.
It is a ISO image of the disc Philips Australia will send out to customers if you ring them up.
Just burn the disc to a CD. (You don't need to finalize the disc either, as mine worked fine unfinalized.)
Here are the instructions that Philips provide with the disc:
The firmware provided is H9923AD107P0, and the file is dated 13/06/2005.To Play disks from other zones with DVP3050V
1/ Turn DPV3050V ON and remove any discs from the DVD tray.
2/ Press DVD button on remote control and then enter 9,8,7,6 and press SEARCH MODE.
3/ Insert the UPGRADE DISC (supplied) and close the tray by pressing OPEN/CLOSE on the remote control or front panel.
4/ The player will update automatically
5/ Once update is completed, the tray will open automatically. Remove the UPGRADE DISC from the tray.
6/ Wait 30 seconds and remove the power lead from the wall. Leave it unplugged for 10 seconds plug it back in again. Turn power ON and the update process is now completed.
Before bothering to upgrade check the firmware version already installed by pressing 1, 2, 3, 4, DISPLAY STATUS.
The firmware provided will display:
Model = “H9923AD”
F/W Version = “1.07”
Region = “0”
I am guessing the region line tells you what region your player is locked to.
Warning: This firmware provided is for the DVP3050V/75 by Philips in Australia. It has been successfully tested on a model purchased in New Zealand, and a one purchased in Australia. It cannot gaurantee that it will work on a model purchased anywhere else, especially one that is not a DVP3050V/75 (which is a PAL model). But feel free to test it on your player if you can live any possible consequences so that we can attain what countries and models this firmware can be used on.

I have mucked around with the US firmware, and I now think it is safe to try the above firmware on a US machine, as the player will reject it if it is not compatible.
When I try the latest US firmware on my NZ machine, it finds the file and begins to load it, but stops when it discovers the video output code is different (ie. NTSC vs PAL). So who knows, maybe the above firmware will work on other PAL models?
I am going to try and tinker with the firmware to see if I can find where the region code is stored... -
Hello,
I am in USA and I have the same player. I followed your hack code but it did not work. It was able to update the firmware but when I play a pal dvd, can't see the picture on tv. Picture const. moves. there is no problem with the voice....any more ideas????

Does your TV support PAL mode? It is likely outputting in PAL B/G mode now, rather than NTSC.
Plus to go back to the US firmware, go to philips.com and under US support you should find the normal region 4 US firmware on the DVP3050V's page, download and follow instructions to get it back to normal. (fingers crossed)

To be honest, after trying your US file hack method player was able to upgrade but when I checked the region after the upgrade, it still said region 1. I thought by upgrading the firmware it becomes region free. Does the tv still has to be handle Pal mode. If that's the case then I have an older 19" or 21" RCA tv. I don't know if it has a pal mode or not...it's about 10-15 year old...NOTE: There is nothing wrong with the player..it still plays the US region Cd's..
