  1. greetings to all, i've been reading this forum for quite some and i'm hoping maybe one you knowledgeable people will be able to help me out.
a week and a half a go i purchased the oppo dv-970hd through onlybestrated. it's living up to all my expectations except for this one issue. i can't seem to be able to play any mp3's with a variable bit rate. i've tried on my usb stick, sd card, cd and dvd (+ and -). i've tried burning as both data and mp3 none of which worked. both my sd card and usb stick have been properly formated. i've written a few e-mails to oppo support, a even sent them some samples of mp3's that wont play on this player. they have been responsive and did investigate the situation, their last e-mail to me was quote:
"We will investigate this lack of ability to play VBR MP3 media through
the week to see what results and solutions we can't come up with."
i have not heard from them since.

i have the player hooked up to my denon a/v receiver with component video cables and a optical wire. am i missing something in the settings? has anyone else using the oppo experienced problems in this area?
i've had no other issues with the player. i've watched quite a few divx movies on both disc and usb and everything works great. oppo seems to play anything you can throw at it except for vbr mp3.

    regards,
    mark

Pc will play anything video , audio related provided the correct decoders are installed ... no mater what .

Topset dvd players supporting mpeg4 playback will not ... if they do , it dosent last .

    Video can be vbr ...
    Audio as cbr ...

Vbr audio is like cutting your legs off ... for no good reason ... so dont do it for audio when creating mpeg4 media files for playback on these device's ... you'll appreciate it later when re-editing content later .

  3. i should of mentioned that my previous player was the pioneer dv-563a and i never ever had any problems playing any mp3's vbr or not. the only reason i switched to the oppo was for the divx/usb functionality.

When you have played with vbr , cbr ... and around 20+ different players under different playback test's ... then you can do what you like and know where problems develope from ... many unit's dislike vbr audio .

You can buy all the units you like , but I dont ever recall seeing one mention how you go about creating mpeg4 playable content for the device ... ever .

The pioneer's are one of the best brands ... but even they can be made to choke if your not carefull ... just like all unit's .
