Hi all you smart people, for the last cuple of days i have for the first time triede to get subtitle to a movie and then get it on a dvd. i have fixed the first problem but now i cant get it to a dvd, im stuck with an ac3 and m2v file.
let me explane what i have done from the begining, so you can see if there have been any mistakes.
1) first i had an img file as i converet to an iso with ISObuster.
2) then i usede DVDFabDecrypter to get the video_ts folder with the vob and ifo files in it.
3) then usede autogk to get an avi file and add new subtitle (i had downloaded). unfourtnly the subtitle didnt mach the movie speed
4) so i use subtitleworkshop where i manuel synched the subtitles
5) after that i used AutoGK to get an avi file where i addede the subtitle
6) used Avi2dvd, but after it was done it just gave me a new video_ts file and a ac3 fil and some txt files.
7) dident know what to do with them, so i triede to use dvdflick insted. after i had use it gave me a m2v file and some other small txt files.
Since this is my first time this has taken some while, because of all the google and forum searching. i began saturday morning. but now i have no ide of what to do. how do i get the movie on a dvd.
Please help

So you had a DVD, converted it to an avi for no good reason, then converted it back to DVD.
I would go back to the Video_TS folder and use VOB2MPG to get the movie out of the VOBs. I would then use the demo version of DVD Lab Pro to load the mpg file and the subs (assuming they are in a suitable format - srt is good) to create a new DVD. This will avoind the completely unnecessary quality drops associated with encoding to avi and back again for no reason.Read my blog here.

Hi-
Go back to step 2 and demux the DVD files inside of the VIDEO_TS using PGCDemux. All those other steps were a complete waste of time and only ruined your video. Take your synched up subtitle file and convert it to SUP format. If it's SRT, then I think there's an SRT2SUP program.
Open Muxman, add the M2V, the AC3, the SUP, and in File->Import Chapter, add your Celltimes txt. "Start". Test in a software DVD player (like PowerDVD) when done. If the subs are the wrong color, open the DVD in PGCEdit, double-click the video, and change the sub colors. This way your subs will be selectable, like in normal DVDs, and not burned into the video, like they were after AutoGK.
You can probably use the output from step 6, but I don't use that program, and don't know what you have. In any event, sending it through AutoGK first was a very bad idea, since you already had a good DVD.
After Muxman, you'll have IFOs, BUPs, and VOBs, with working subtitles. Stick those files inside of a VIDEO_TS file. Create an AUDIO_TS file and leave it empty. ImgBurn will create the ISO and burn to DVD for you. Or skip the ISO creation, and just burn to DVD.
Edit: Darn, too slow. Hi guns1inger! -
Looking at your workflow, you've taken a long detour.
You shouldn't go into AVI at all.
Assuming you have an ISO of a DVD video, what you want to do is re-author it.
There are many guides here. But briefly:
same as your 1 & 2
Now you have the VOBs, etc on your hard disk.
Use VOB2MPG to make an MPEG of the movie (I assume it's a single title).
Get SubtitleCreator.
Load your text subtitle (an SRT file) and save it as a SUP (a special kind of video file).
Now you need to reauthor, and add your subtitle.
One simple, free way, using Rejig:
In "File Mode": select your MPEG. Demux to create a video and audio file (probably M2V and AC3).
Now close that and go to "DVD Author" mode. Select your video, audio and subtitle (SUP) files.
Create!
And now you have a new VIDEO_TS folder.
Burn that.
For instance, if you use Nero, select "Photo and Video" as the kind of disk, then select the VIDEO_TS folder you made; burn.
Every other burning app will have a similar dialog.
It's a good idea to have a DVDRW or two to experiment with, you can reuse if it doesn't work.
PS: two other solutions posted while I was writing this.
Different tools, same result basically. -
thanks to all 3 of you, i will try an do what you have said, and hope it works
-
soory to say i need more help, now i have been trying all day doing what you have said.
used vob2mpg
then subtitlecreator to change the srt file to a sup
then i used rejig file mode i got a m2v and a pcm file. then i use rejig --> dvd author
tyhe result was a video_ts with BUPs, VOBs and IFOs and an empty audio_ts folder.
then i used imgburn to make an iso mounted my virtuldrive with the iso and found out that there was no sound or subtitles.
do one of you know what i have done wrong? -

Are you sure there are no subtitles?
They should be switchable, not permamanently burnt into the image; ReJig doesn't give you a menu, but the subtitles can be turned on or off by the button on the remote. Should be a menu item for that if you're using a virtual DVD player. -
Yeah, did you test the DVD using PowerDVD or some such, after authoring with Rejig? I don't mean playing a VOB file, but playing the DVD. Were there subs then? You may have to turn them on in PowerDVD. If the authored DVD has subs, then so will the burned DVD. ImgBurn doesn't alter the data in any way. There's no way you can suddenly lose the subs or audio.
You can confirm they're in the DVD by opening the IFO from the authored DVD and demux using PGCDemux. You should find the audio and subs are demuxed. -
i have tried as manono said to demux the authored dvd with pgcdemux, and it didn't find any audio file, but it did find the subtitle. so you were right the just had to be turned on. but when i did that the were totaly diffrent from when i wached them on the avi fil. the color was all wrong.
i have insted tried to demux the file with pgcdemux i got a wav file, m2v, sup, celltime.txt and a logfile.txt.
then i use muxman to author, but when the program was about to finish it says there are an error..
so i tried to use the files i got from pgcdemux and put them into rejig. and it seems to work until i convertet the files into a iso with imgburn and tried it on my virtuel drive.
the audio in the move have a lot of noise and the subtitles are still in a wrong color.
you know what i can do now? -

It seems odd that you have a wave file. The sound in your original DVD should have been AC3,and there is no reason to change it.
As for subtitle colours -- that's a setting in the IFO file. That can be changed with Subtitle Creator. Have a look at the PDF help file in its documents folder.
Look also at ReJig, it has an option to "copy subtitle colours" from an IFO file.
But if you can download yet another small (free) tool, DVDSubEdit is very easy to use to change colours and other features after you create the VIDEO_TS files. -
As for fixing the subtitle colors, I like PGCEdit for speed and ease of use, although there are several ways, and AlanHK has mentioned others. Take note of the outline and main color. Open the DVD in PGCEdit. Doubleclick the video. Find the colors, probably in the top row of the CLUT (Color LookUp Table) in the new screen. Change them to whatever you want. Save and Test.
If the audio didn't mux, maybe it's corrupt in some way. Like AlanHK, I don't know why you converted to WAV when you already had a good AC3 track. My suggestion is to mux using the AC3. If you still don't get sound, maybe run it through AC3Fix and try again. -
I want to thank you all for your help i got the file to work, by using the ac3 file i got when i tried to convert the avi file to a dvd. and mux it with the other demuxed filse from pgcdemux. used rejig to auther the dvd and dvdsubedit to change the color of the subs. (wich was a very easy program).
so problem fixed thanks to all of you for helping me.
