I am trying to burn a DVD Video I created that can be read by older DVD players.

    I have a JVC XV-525 DVD / Video CD / CD player
and a Plextor PX-716A DVD Writer

I have tried Nero 7 (Own Copy) and TMPGenc DVD Author (Also Own).

Burns are great at all speeds but the DVD player does not see the DVD Disk.
    Ends up timing out.

I have 1 video and a Menu on the burned DVD.
Newer (less then a year old) do not seem to have a problem.

    Suggestions?

    Currently I am using
    Verbatim DVD-Recordable 16X/1X Certified
I have not had a problem making backups with the disks.

As for the +R or -R, the disk is only marked as R

Not all players can read all media brands/types.

As Baldrick stated, you may need to try a different type of disc. If you are currently using -R then try +R or vice versa. You may also need to try a different brand.

  5. Try the 1x or 2x compusa -r disc. These purple color disks do better with older DVD players.

Bitsetting/booktyping might solve all this. Pick up some DVD+R Verbatims and burn another copy (I trust you already know you need to use the DVD-Video compilation type in Nero Burning Rom, correct?) Ensure that Nero is set to booktype. Use DVDIdentifier to determine if the disc was correctly bitset to DVD-ROM. It will say DVD+R --- DVD-ROM. Then try that in your JVC.
