I'm a newbie here so if this is the wrong forum, please redirect.
I make compilations from captured footage on TV. Usually I create the DVD, burn it and watch it on a stand alone (Panasonic) and all is well. Not anymore. Now whenever I burn one of these compilations the picture is choppy. The pictures nice until they start moving. If I watch the DVD on my computer, the picture is wonderful.
Why would the picture be perfect on my computer but on a stand alone it's choppy? I'm using #1 media and have attempted burning at 4x. I've used DVD Shrink and three different versions of Nero. Currently am using 6.6.0.16 or is it 18, doesn't matter.
I have tried resetting my CMOS, checked into a firmware update but there's only an update for a different dvd burner that's compatible. I have changed the jumpers on the drives, reinstalled drivers for the DMA and
I moved all the DVD files onto another computer and burned a DVD with a different burner, same problem. I've tested three different dvd stand alones. Brands Panasonic, APEX and Samsung.
No matter what on the stand alones, it plays choppy while on the computer it looks fine when viewing under PowerDVD.
The frame rate for the compilation is 5000, captured at 8000. The compilations I create run 2 hours or a little under.
I've found people with similar problems but they give up. I've got several compilations done and ready to burn, I can't give up. What better place to get some real help but videohelp.com
Does anyone know why these play just fine on my computer but horribly on any stand alone and how could I fix it? I'm very happy to know that it's not my dvd burner like it was appearing to be.

Please provide more information about how you capture, convert the video. What tools? Are you capturing to avi?mpeg2? PAL or NTSC? Interlaced?
Choppy how? freezes? or just when a lot of movements? then it could be a interlace field order problem. -

I create Video File and I change it to:

Lower Field First
(DVD-NTSC), 4:3
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 5000 kbps)

Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
I'm using Ulead Video Studio 9 and I've also tried using NeroVision.
I don't know what interlaced is though.
The picture doesn't freeze up. The pictures clear but when there's movement there's like lines following the movement.
Oh I'm sorry, I forgot the screen caps

You must use latest gspot 2.6+. Gspot 2.21 doesn't support mpg.
Lines in movement is a interlacing problem. You can try change the field order(lower field first) and check for other interlace settings(I don't use videostudio or nerovision). -
I tried changing the field from lower to upper and it's even worse. What program do you use by chance? I've also tried Pinnacle but I'm open to using any program that will fix this. Now the picture could make anyone sick watching the constant choppy picture. It kinda reminds me of a cartoon book when a person flips through the pages.

Are you defragging your HD prior to capturing? Hopefully you have a 2-hd setup, one for software, and one for storage.

Well, I tried it and there's now another coaster. Defragging didn't work. Will anyone be willing to let me send a copy of one of these so they can tell me what's wrong with it? I won't show up at your door or anything, I just hope to find out what's wrong and how to fix it (besides dropping my computer off the top of a tower)

I just started importing VCR tapes and attempting to turn them into DVDs for the first time. I had this same problem and after many many many hours of trying to fix it, found out two things"
1) Change both the import software and burner software to the same type of interlacing option (top first or bottom first, turn off progressive).
2) If you are using Nero, disable the option called 'nero smart encoding'.
These changes worked for me, hope it helps!
