Hi again,
I've been experimenting with dialogue normalization and Dolby compression standards. My question is, how are you supposed to determine how long it'll be before an encoder boosts low sounds and lessens louder sounds? I've found that Film Standard seems to work well, but I'd like to know when a sound is either going to boom or be brought down. I'm wording this poorly, so I hope someone gets my point.
Thanks,
Justin

Completely depends on the software. Some apps will scan all the way through the audio file before they do any dynamic range compression. Others will scan a few samples ahead and compensate for any volume level changes.
Read Q #3 at this URL to see how one app does it.
