  1. Hi,

Time came to burn some of the svcd postings stored on my system - only things don't seem to be going well. The file I choose was a StoneCutters release onto Princo cd/rw in a Plextor 24/10/40 drive. The cd/rw was full erased in all cases.

Nero said the burn (with overburn enabled) was fine as did cdrdao from vcdeasy (no errors reported from either). The problem is that both the Plextor and normal drive seem to have problems reading the burnt disc afterwards - if anything shows (eventually) it only gives 5 small audio files (a few k each). The icon will show an audio cd if it ever manages to read the burnt disc.

Re-inserting the cd into the two drives causes the system to pause as if it cannot read the disc (it will erase and seem to be writen to afterwards).

I was really interested in burning the files and viewing on a pc (as my Sony probably won't read the discs - 725). Power-DVD struggles to read the disc and gives up (or hangs the system).

Can anyone help in this matter, as I have had no luck whatsoever burning the files to cd.

    Many thanks.

    Ice'y

  2. I'm not sure if this is the case, but it sounds like you overburned your media just a tad too much!

  4. Well, I have overburned CDRW's before, but not by too much, sounds to me like the overburning that was done, was way over done.

  5. Hi again,

Thanks for the replies but no, it is not an overburn scenario - I just don't know what is up. The Stone Cutters release came close to 800MB's (maybe a bit more) and the Princo CD/RW shows as 703MB.

I used IsoBuster to extract the files all of which played in PowerDVD as media files. I then compiled a new S-Vcd compilation in VCDEasy using CDRDAO using only the main Mpeg (650MB's) - no other files media files but a text file in the appropriate folder.

CDRDAO burnt the s-vcd to the cd-rw and the log showed no problem. But, the burnt disc now shows 2 CD Audio tracks of a few k (maybe 10k) each and nothing else. I will try another cd (normal) one with normal files. Maybe my new drive is duff.

    Many thanks.

  6. Hi again,

It appears the problem all along was the Princo 4x-10x cd/rw media I was using (tried several of them). When I used the extracted main mpeg2 file on the supplied 650MB cd/rw it all burnt just fine.

Damn, a brand new drive that's supposed to be superb and it won't work with a very popular media (one that works in most dvd drives)

    Oh well, such is life.

Many thanks for all the help.

  7. Sounds a bit strange to me, especialy considering you mentioned your drive is a Plextor which is supposed to be the best of the best.

I suggest you try finding a firmware upgrade, and even email plextor about this problem you are having.
