I have K-Lite codec pack and I still cannot demux avi files in VdubMod.

Anyone know what codec I need?

1st..... I don't recommend anyone to install a codec pack. I only recommend installing the codec you need and are going to use, nothing extra, nothing that you don't know what it is and what it's going to do. Only install the necessities in an attempt to keep from having unnecessary trouble which codec packs has been notorious for causing. I am living proof. lol

The way you 'know' what you need is by examining and understanding the files you are trying to play, edit, encode, demux, etc. I use AVICodec. It's a small easy to use and understand program that will tell you information about your video and audio files. GSpot. Gspot is a little more intensive file information program that can give even more information when you need it. And I also use one of the VirtualDub variants (like VDMOD) and it's File - File Information command. This too is a good way to understand the properties of your files. If you understand the properties of your files then you will also understand more about why it won't work.

Find out these properties then come back. Without more information I cannot help you.

    Good luck.

Vdub says:improper VBR audio encoding, couldn't locate decompressor for xvid. Need a VFW compatible codec.

I am endlessly trying to just increase the framerate of certain avi files encoded with xvid that are in PAL. It seems I am running into walls.

You apparently have two problems. If you have MP3 VBR audio, VirtualDub will choke on that. You will usually also have sync problems if you try to encode a video with VBR audio to MPEG format. What you can do with VirtualDub Mod is to save out the MP3 audio in WAV format, using full audio processing. Demuxing probably won't work. Then you can convert that back to MP3 CBR with VDM, or use other programs and add it back in. Blame the people who used the VBR for all that.

The second part is you don't have a proper XviD codec installed. I wouldn't be surprised if your codec pack has done that.

And you will likely have sync problems with the audio anyway if you change the video framerate and don't adjust the audio length.

I was told I could just demux the avi, then adjust only the video stream through dppulldown. Then, I can multiplex through TMPGenc. However, TMPGenc didn't like the combination of the 2 elementary streams. So, I thought I would try demuxing and remuxing with Vdubmod. I don't know, I think I will give up- I've tried everything and have downloaded way to much software. I will live with the choppy picture I guess.
