I am trying to convert a digital camera recording (MPEG2) to x264/Vorbis/Matroska format using StaxRip. However, Staxrip gives me an error and says that Matroska does not support "RAW 264" so I can't do it. Googling "matroska x264," I did not see anything that suggested there was a conflict between these two. Is there something I am doing wrong, or this just a problem with StaxRip? And if so what video converter tool should I switch to?

Not possible with staxrip, see http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=102652&page=59 and search for "raw 264"

So do I have to use the MP4 container? Or is there another program that make x264 work with Matroska?

    tried megui?

You could make a mp4 and then demux/split video and audio with yamb and mux to a mkv with mkvtoolnix.

x264 can output raw, mp4 or mkv. raw is the only one that mkvtoolnix can't handle (unless you mux to mp4 first).
