    Hi,

I've been trying to author a few home made video clips to a dvd and encountered errors. Hope someone out there can advice :

    1) video clip is in .mod format (jvc everio camcorder) - i've renamed it to .mpg and was able to play it using vlc, windows media player without loss of audio

    2) using Gspot, it was shown as mpeg-2 format and "dvd compliant"

    3) used Rejig to demux the clips to .m2v & .ac3

    4) i used DVDAuthorGUI to add the files and did up the menu (with title)

    5) as i didn't want to burn direct to dvd yet, i make dvdauthorgui author it in the HD and this is the error i got :

    ========================

It appears that something is wrong with the ac3 stream. This may have been caused by the demultiplexing process. You can try to repair your ac3 file with a utility on this site, called ac3fix. Once ac3fix processes your audio file, try using dvdauthorgui to author your dvd with the new audio file.

now, this looks like an issue with your m2v file. Try running restream on it to reset the timestamps.

thanks liquid217 once again for the reply...

i encountered the error on the desktop PC... using the exact same files (m2v & ac3) on my notebook i was able to author (using dvdauthorgui) without any error...

any idea why i'm getting so much error first with the ac3 now with m2v??...

do i have to run "ac3fix" and "restream" everytime after i demux with "rejig" before using "dvdauthorgui"??...

    one more question :

why does the menu page (with buttons for chapter selection) only appear like for a second and then disappeared??... i used the recommended value of 1 (for PAL)...

thanks once again for the help...

Thats very odd. I don't really have any explanation. I would guess that maybe the demultiplexing process was somehow different from your notebook, then when it was processed on your desktop.

As to your menu problem, make your framecount to be the length on the menu (if you are using audio with it). If not, set it to 1 minute (Yes, that is a just an arbitrary number). 1 minute in PAL terms would be 1500 frames.

ok... i'm kinda lost here... where should i go about changing this?... i want the menu screen to stay until a selection of a chapter is made... how should i go about doing that...

i'm very close now to completing this "project"... hehehe...

    thanks liquid217...

I assume you are making an m2v still from a bmp or jpg. If so, when it asks you how many frames to create, specify 1500.

Consider trying DVDStyler (free). You should be able to load your mpeg2 file directly into it.

Get the latest beta version 1.5beta7. Since your source audio is already AC3, select AC3 when starting a new project. This selection is only for the "silent" audio of menus anyway. You can use video clips for menu backgrounds or still images of your choice -- instead of the built in still backgrounds. Get the "Operations Manual" linked in the documents section of the DVDStyler home page.

DVDStyler Ver. 1.5beta7 is much better than Ver. 1.4. All versions prior to 1.5b7 had a built in problem that almost guaranteed failure for NTSC projects. There was a simple fix but many first time users weren't aware of it. The result was failure to even play the menu in standalone players.

If you try it and have further questions, post them either in this thread or a new thread in this (DVD Authoring) forum. Many people are successfully using DVDStyler.

I would also recommend VideoReDo for editing mpeg2 source files, including TiVo and DVR-MS. There is a special kind of MPEG2 file it can save (VOB, .vob) that speeds up the process when authoring them with DVDStyler -- cuts about 40% off the time. It also "cleans up" the video as it's saving it.
