anyone have experience capture long shows such as sports events in half d1 (352x480) in order ot fit into dvd-r? what's the optimal settings in cbr value or vbr range to use? is 352x480 as good as a vhs tape in standard mode? is this playable on most sony, samsung, generic players?
trying to decide if i'd wanna record in half d1 or recording SP mode at 720x480 and split the file in two since don't have dual-layer disks.
using wintv pvr usb 2.

Calculating CBR settings for X minutes to take up Y bytes is a simple division (Y / X), allowing first for authoring and VOB overhead.
4,500,000,000 bytes / 210 minutes ~= 2857Kb/s.
For VBR, that would be your average, then for best compression results, use as wide of a min/max range as possible.
