    Hi,

I'm switching over to XP64 and have some problems installing 2 codecs:
    -panasonic DV
    -huffyuv

Both have an inf file as installer, and it won't work on XP64.

Anyone knows if there are XP64 versions of these codecs, or if you can edit the inf files to work on xp64? I searched the forum and also google for converting the inf files, but I don't get a clear answer.

    Thanks for any help!

  3. I have XP x64 but I haven't installed either of those codecs.

When you say the INF files don't work, what exactly do you mean?

Didn't have any problems installing 32bit VfW codecs last I tried under X64. As for 64bit versions. ffdshow supports huffyuv and DV. Probably the newest 64bit build is the one that I did last year. You need to be using say the 64bit build of VDub to use a 64bit codec though. If you are using a 32bit encoder, then you need a 32bit codec.

I had no trouble installing other codecs, only these two. They have no real installer, the installer is an inf file which you should rightclick and choose 'install'. The inf file is nothing more than a text file with info about where to put some files to make the codec work, and probably some registry values to make sure the codec pops up in all the video apps. When you do choose install, it does something, but then suddenly says failed to load or something. So something is not working, probably the inf file needs some adjustment (maybe a simple adjustment like a wrong path?)

I use vdub and vegas, both 32 bit versions on a 64 bit system. So I want to install the 32 bit codecs. My goal is to get panasonic dv codec working in vdub, and the huffyuv in vegas.

Why bother switching to X64 just to use 32bit apps?

Simply copying the dll to syswow64 and adding a vidc entry to HKLM32\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32 should do it.

In fact, didn't squid_80 do a 64bit version of Huffyuv? I could easily knock up an installer that would install both.

Panasonic DV on the other hand is closed source, as well as dodgy (if it still has that problem accepting any FourCC).

    Hi,

I don't use that pc only for video My main profession is 3D viz, and these programs are 64 bit ready, and it's a huge performance boost. But I want all may apps to run on that pc, and most are still 32 bit, which is no problem normally.

Since most video apps are still 32bit, I would like to install 32bit codecs for them.

If you would make an installer for huffyuv 32 bit for xp64 I would be more than happy I'm not very familiar with editing the registry. I looked into it, and there was already a vidc entry in there, I then copied the dll to the correct folder but it still doesn't show up in vdub.

Panasonic DV, another DV codec is also good for me, as long as it's free. Do you have a personal preference for a certain DV codec?

Thanks for all the replies so far!

You have to remember for X64 there are separate registries for 32 and 64bit dll's as well as the separate system folders. Could be that the entry was added for 64bit.

    You could always dual boot.

I'll see if squid_80 really did a 64bit version (I know he was at least talking about it). If so I will do a dual installer.
