Tomorrow "Black Friday" Walmart has a Viore 42" Plasma TV for $997.00 durning the opening "CRUSH" . I was interested in a large tv and a plasma would fit the bill. I dont have model # or anything else to go on just the photo in the flyer.....any thoughts on this brand. I'll tough out the crowd if it's reasonable. AR

I checked other sites and thses are not too bad for the $$, they are made by Akie (sp). May try and get one unless someone has more info. I'm not a techno geek so I dont need all the bells & whistles.

one bad thing about buying from walmart is you can't buy Extended Warranty
only 1 or 3 months for returns thats it . in this case a 3 or 4 year extended Warranty is a must

also bestbuy got the Maxent 42in Plasma EDTV with DVI for $999.99

Huh? WalMart Electronics Extended Service and Maintenance Plans

This is a decent TV, but for a few hundred more you could get a better HDTV 42 inch Plasma.

Heaven help us I agree with ROF. On the warranty that is.
I think extended warranties from Walmart are only available online though. I know that was the case with the Ilo dvd recorders.

Wasn't there just a discussion about screen door effect in DLP televisions?

And don't forget the ever popular Rainbow Effect. I think for the most part those problems are disappearing.

to Stickpilot, heavily discounted 42" plasma TVs (as in <$1000) could be 1st or 2nd generation that magnify all the bad tendencies of plasmas including poor contrast ratios, low resolutions (480x852), excessive power consumption, screen burn problems, etc. The only thing going for them is they are sexily flat and wall hangable. Discounted or not, if it's plasma u want, start with a contrast ratio >1000:1, a resolution equal to or better than 1000 horizontally or vertically, & power consumption <200W.
For the nth time, with the possible exception of certain Intel processors, I don't have/ever owned anything whose name starts with "i".

I bought the Viore 42" HDTV last Friday at Walmart. I also bought a Toshiba DVD player (SD-K860) and connected them via HDMI. In all HDMI modes the DVD supports (480p, 720p and 1080i) I get the TV to display video, but the colors look awful. It looks like when you reduce a digital photo from 16M colors to 256. Not sure yet if this is a Viore or Toshiba issue. Has anybody seen this on the Viore set? By the way, colors are fine when connected via component video.

    kutikuma,
It could also be an HDMI issue. The standard is not addressed the same by everyone and the story is still out.

I just called Viore customer service and they told me it could be the HDMI cable. They also told me that the set was not available before Friday last week and there were no other calls on that issue yet. So, I will try a different HDMI cable some time tonight.
