here's my question ... hopefully someone can help me soon....im out of dvd-r's till tommaro but some clarification would be greatly appreciated....

I took an avi file and using ffmpegX (great software, just dont understand most of it), I encoded the avi file to DVD ffmpeg setting....--->

this created two things--> 1. an mpg file with no audio
    2. a mpg.dvd folder containing the proper audio_ts and video_ts that play perfectly on my cpu's dvd player (osx)

next I made an img file using the tools section in ffmpegX and than used disk utility to burn it just like the instruction point out.

the dvd burns properly, verifys and works on my computer.

when i try to play the dvd to my playstation2
i get no video. the audio is there and It is a newer ps2 and it deffinitley play dvd-r disc's---->

anyone run into a similar situation cause I m out a dvd-r's cause i thought it was a burning problem....

    thanks

You could try the DVD mpeg2enc preset, to see if it creates a more-PS2-compatible output.

If you tried playback in QuickTime Player, then the lack of audio could be because of the AC3 format of the audio. Unfortunately, QuickTime Player won't decode the AC3 audio stream in MPEG files. This is no big deal as Apple DVD Player DOES decode AC3, as you've found in the next step:

Good testing; if Apple DVD Player plays the VIDEO_TS folder on your HDD and plays the disc, then the authoring went okay.

If you hear audio, then the disc is fine. Burning another disc would likely give the same results. A good thing you didn't waste any more discs, eh?

My guess is, the PS2 is picky about the MPEG-2 video stream, hence my first suggestion. DVD mpeg2enc is not as fast as DVD ffmpeg tho', but some players like the output better.
