    Hi!

I can't get subtitles to work with DivX/Xvid files on my LG RH-188s recorder. I've put the .sub and .idx subs along with the movie on a disc or HD and they are even recognised as such when selected, but don't get displayed.

Did anyone get subtitles to work with divx/xvid on an LG recorder, yet?

I can't help you with your specific model, but I can provide some general guidance. SUB format subtitles rarely work on standalone players that support Divx. I think they often claim to support SUB format, but the problem is which SUB format? My Philips definitely does not like SubRip format, which is usually what SUB means, but that designation is also used for some formats that have nothing to do with SubRip.

SRT works best. Convert your file to SRT if possible. I know it's painful because you'll have to use an OCR to do it. It's been a while since I've had to do this, but Subresync and some other programs can do the conversion and a web search can find files you can preload that should match most of your subs, requiring you to type in very little to convert it to SRT.
