I have converted a quicktime movie to flv using ffmpegX 0.0.9x r2. I did have to do Invert Mapping in the audio tab to get it to work (I found that tip on the forum, thanks!) I can view the flv in VLC and I can embed it in a page and it works, except that the playhead doesn't work. In VLC it gives me this error when I open the file:
    access_file: seeking too far
    access_file: seeking too early
    access_file: seeking too far
I can dismiss the error and play the video. The pause button works just fine, but if I click on the timeline and try to jump to a particular point in the video, VLC throws another error and closes the video.

The results are similar when I embed it. I can play and pause just fine, but the timeline shows up like the video has finished playing (the black bar runs all the way across to the right).

I've tried converting from an avi, I've tried using different sizes, and bitrates, but I always get the same result. Does anyone know how to fix this? It's so close to working. I would really love to do it in ffmpegX because it's open source and gives me a lot of control (yes, and because it's free).

  2. This is in my to-do list, it is related to adding metadata to the stream.

major, Great, thank you. I'm happy to know that it's not a problem specific to me. I'll wait patiently.

I found a way to insert the metadata myself using Flvtool2. The instructions are here.

  5. Yes, I planned to integrate flvtool2 in fact.

I got the same problem for .flv received directly from Google Video, so I guess this is not an FFmpegX issue.

playback of .flv file with VLC 0.8.5 (stable build) works fine, but the playhead does not work.

I have to correct myself .. playback dies after maybe half a minute with this error:

    access_file: seeking too far
    main: thread 2684415384: mutex_lock failed at misc/variables.c:805 (22:Invalid argument)

    Hallo!
I've downloaded FLVtools2 for Unix/MacOS X.......but the installing instructions in the enclosed README file are not very clear to me.
Can you help me in the FLVtools2 installation procedure??
FYI I'm not a "terminal" expert.....

Do I need to install "Ruby" programming language ???

.....I hope that the next FFmpeg version will fix the "no-Metadata-in-FLV" issue....

Thank - you and sorry for my english.

@major: The metadata bug is fixed in the latest SVN of ffmpeg. Why not just include a newer release?

  9. Thank you, I'll do that then.

Well, it is according to this thread, anyway: http://lists.mplayerhq.hu/pipermail/ffmpeg-devel/2006-August/013628.html. But I haven't gotten it working. I can't get flvtool2 working either, so that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

Metatata injecton in FLV files exported with ffmpegX on Mac OS X issue solved!

For the people like me that want to made FLV files witj ffmpeg X and Mac OS X you can insert the metadata in the FLV file with FLV-DURATION.

    http://www.swfx.org/flv-duration/index.jsp

    You don't need FLVTool2.....)

FLV-DURATION is VERY EASY to use and the final FLV file is perfect.

    Bye!
