  1. Ave,

    I have a Pioneer DVR-111D and a Pioneer DVR-109 DVD Burner. I'm looking to buy a 100 Pack of 16x DVD-R to burn movies & data.

All three have specials on Newegg.com and available for around $30. I can't decide which one to buy. I know RiTek manufactures it's own media, and is also a supported media for Pioneer burners. But both TDK & Verbatim are generally rated higher. I'd like to go with either of these... but the problem is i don't know which media manufacturer they are using and if that manufacturer is recommended for using with a Pioneer DVR-111D / DVR-109.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Just my personal preference but when faced with similiar pricing, Verbatim has yet to let me down on quality.

That would be the first time I have ever seen another online retailer listing the media codes for NewEgg.COM sold media.

  7. For the past 6 months I have been very unhappy with DVD-R quality results as measured with Nero's disk read speed test and disk quality tests. I have tried, Ritek, Verbatum, TDK, and Sony media on my NEC DVD writer and none had consistently good resuts. It appears that the quality of these brands went down around the time 16x media became widely available. I tried buning at 4x, 8x, 12x, and 16x and still could not get consistent results.

Two weeks ago, I finally purchased some Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 8x media from rima.com. What a difference! I am totally sold on TY media now! The results are so good, I am seriously thinking about discarding my supply of >200 unused non-TY media. I paid ~$35 for 100 TY disks (including shipping) which is even comparable to the price of the other brands.

If you have trouble on Verbatim (MCC), TDK and Sony, you've got issues. It's not the media. But yes, TY is another good one. A bit overrated, but still a great media.

  9. I was looking up at Supermediastore.Com as someone suggested... and i couldn't find the media codes for Verbatim discs. I do understand it's "MCC" which i think is Mitsubishi Chemicals. But i didn't find this at supermediastore.com ... just wondering if i'm looking in the wrong place.

    Thanks.

Verbatim is MCC or MKM. No need to look for media code.

    Good choice, Don.
I've found the 8X TY -R from Rima to be the best media available for me and hunderds of people's posts on several forums also.
    I think it's underrated.
Yes, your writer may have issues or not. And it could be the media. To say it's not the media w/o actually testing your stack would be pure assumption.
You have excellent media from a very respected dealer at an excellent price.
    Congrats.

    Mickey79,
Thanks for the info about Newegg's $25.99 (after rebate) price on the Verbatim.
Might be a good time to experiment with some 16X.
    Regards,

Wow. They went up today. I guess i was lucky to have ordered yesterday. I paid $30 for the pack and after rebate it will be $20. Price went up by $5.99 today. That's why i was confused when you said $25.99 (after rebate) because mine was $20 (after rebate).

They shipped it out fast too. That's why i love Newegg. Ordered last evening around 4, shipped out at 5:40 PM and is supposed to be delivered via UPS today... less then 24 hours... and this is Free Shipping!

Can't wait to get mine and burn some of the stuff off. Will definately report back sucess rate with the discs here.

About a month ago, I bought 100 8X Verbatim DVD-Rs for $9.99 from Supermediastore.com... That's with a $20 rebate (that I still haven't received). Factor in the shipping and the actual cost was about $18.99 for 100... Still, a good deal.

Also, my Pioneer DVR-109 can't burn those discs at 8X for some reason (three coasters... bleah), but it's okay at 6X.

    Odd.

    Guess I'm odd man out.

I would have went for the TDK, especially
if they matched up to TTGx or TTHx codes
    like Supermediastore.com's or Target's.

I stay away from Ritek, unless its OfficeDepot branded
DVD-RW's...those things are quite good. Maxell branded
Ritek's (RITEKWx) are crapola. The ones I bought
on sale last week at Office Depot ( buy1Get1) gave me
nothing but Medium errors in the Write Out stage in Toast.

Verbatim's love their CD-Rs, have only used their DL -R
media, and it burns and verifies fine. Never used their
    DVD-Rs though.

Verbatim, TY, or TDK for sure..I never had any luck with Ritek's (used G04, G05 and R05 if memory serves, various brands) on either of my Pioneers (106/109)..Not tons of 'bad burns', but the quality of the burns (and perhaps the longevity consequently) were never as good as the others.. Personally, I'd even go so far as to use ProDisc MID discs before using Ritek ever again.

A bit OT now - with Verbatim 16x -R and my new NEC 3550A, I don't think I've gotten *1* good burn with straight DVD data burns (either data or video) - works fine making image w/ IMGTool, burning w/ (usually) DVD Decrypter..Nor can I burn even that @ higher than 8x without issues cropping up.. But that's a whole other issue there (perhaps a firmware update is in order).

OT: I think the 8X Prodisc DVD-Rs that Supermediastore sells are pretty good: inexpensive and only one bad burn out of 200+ discs (all burned at 8X on the DVR-109).

I guess Newegg's "One day sale" means just that. They must change prices at midnight because I went that night and checked.
Anyway I read all the reviews there and they seemed mixed. I know usually the unsatisfied post more than the satisfied. Lots claim they never got the rebate.
Again, could be user error as I've always got rebates.
Anyway thanks for the info and good luck,

    What's the media code on those? ProdiscF01? ProdiscS04? MCC02RG20?

Nice, you got the Prodisc-made Mitsubishi discs. I may have to order a spindle or two when my Verbatim printable MCC02RG20 runs out. Or maybe before, just to have them! HA!

  22. Ave,

I had pretty much 0 coasters with ProDisc for almost an year or so with my bundles, until the last bundle which had over 40% coasters, which is why i ventured out to sniff out some other good stuff.

At 8X a 4.7GB Full DVD Movie burns in under 7 minutes, so i could care less if it burns at 16X or not.... as long as coasters are minimal to none. I got my 100 Pack of 16X DVD-R & 100 Pack of 52X CD-R - Both Verbatim - Yesterday evening. Unfortunately it was too late to try anything out. Will certainly do today.
Got package in under 24 hours from order placed... at free shipping... much love to newegg.

    TDK003 is usually 16x DVD+R
The TDK DVD-R has always been a TDK ID (TTG, TTH, TDK).

  25. Burnt 4 DVD's Back To Back ... Pioneer DVR 109 at 8X ... Burnt Absolutely Awesome! No Coasters! Excellent Quality. Tested thoroughly in DVD Player.
Burnt 2 CD's and tested thoroughly in Stereo.

I'm a happy camper. I know 4 is a pretty low number out of a 100 pack... but i had trouble with my last ProDisc pack from Disc 2. I was just happy to see everything burning again without errors.

Didn't get a chance to try a burn in my Pioneer DVR 111D at 16X. The older one doesn't support 16X. But like i said before, i could care less if they burn at 16X... as long as they burn at 8X or even 12X.

It was a Deal! I can definately recommend Verbatim to Pioneer Burner owners now.

Which older one doesn't support 16x? The 109 should, unless you have another burner you didn't mention before.

  27. Hmm, Interesting. I though 109 Doesn't support 16X. I probably need to update firmware in that case, for it to support 16X.

    I have Pioneer DVR-109 & DVR-111D.

Yes, I have a DVR-A09XLC (same as the 109) and I can burn the Verbatim 16x media at 16x. I'm running the latest firmware, 1.58.

  29. That might be the problem. I don't think my firmware is up to date to 1.58... i'll look into it later tonight.
