    Hi Folks
Hope you can help with what I hope is a minor problem.

I have a JVC digital video camera (GR-DV808) and an LG HDD/DVD recorder, model RH177. I have no trouble transferring film from the camera to the hard drive of the recorder, then burning a DVD from the hard drive, and no trouble transferring film from the camera direct to DVD.
However, in both cases above, the DVD will only play on the LG recorder. The DVD will not show on a different DVD player, and shows as a corrupt disc when I try to read it on my computer.

The output on the DVD is said to be MPEG 2

Is the above a known problem, am I doing something wrong, or is the recorder faulty???

    Any help will be appreciated

Do any DVDs created on the DVR play properly on a regular player?
Do you have to finalize the disc for them to properly play? Some players may need to finalize the DVD.
What DVD media are you using?
Have you tried any other brand media?

There are usually a couple of DVR formats. Did you create the DVDs in VR or DVD-video format? VR format may be a problem for playback on anything except the recorder that created it.

    And welcome to our forums.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Not sure if any other DVDs will play - this is a new machine and I have only just begun to use it.
I recorded on a DVD-R disc - the recorder initalises and finalises automatically.

Will try DVD-RW or similar as this format allows manual finalising.

The instruction manual (I know real men don't read them...but what the hay!)tells me that the recorder supports both DVD VR and DVD-Video format, presumably it should be possible to specify which of the two formats to use, but I haven't found them yet.

Thanks again, and let me know if you think of anything else I might try.

Well! Now I feel really dumb!!!

I found the bit in the instructions that tells me that DVD-R and DVD-RW will only record in Video mode.
DVD+RW, DVD+R etc will, I think, record in either. I'll try them tomorrow and post if i have any further problems.

    Thanks again
