Guys been having problems with minidv (read my post below) I am still waiting on my cable to get here. I tried minidv again and it recognized it a little bit, but kept crashing. It showed up in device manager as a "unknown device" and when I turned on windv all I got was a black screen, but it didnt have the "error device not found" so I assume it recognized it, but wasnt showing picture. I put my win98 disc in and loaded the original drivers and now nothing at all except "error device not found" Is there a certain list of drivers that I need so I can look and see if they are some how getting lost. When I first got cam all I did was plug it in and it worked no cd or anything. One of the errors my pc got when it crashed was something about a "vxd dtriver". I checked again it showed up in device manager, but had a "X" through it.

It depends on which .vxd driver you are talking about. Here's some info on W98 and .vxd drivers. http://www.beemerworld.com/tips/driversbug.htm

win98 or win 98se?
XP supports IEEE-1394 natively. 98se was the first but I forget the tricks. Most add-in IEEE-1394 PCI cards come with software for 98se. -
SE, the only software I needed was the drivers from the original win98 disk. I checked and it claims the drivers are correctly installed for it, but with microsoft who in the world really knows. If I get this new cable and it doesnt solve the problem look for me on the news I will be the one going postal.

Try to separate hardware from software issues.
Try to find another computer to test the hardware (i.e. cable + camcorder). If everything works there then delete the IEEE-1394 drivers in device manager and let them re-install on the next reboot.
If that doesn't work, maybe time for the reformat.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was the cable!!! Got the new one today and it worked. The cable I just got fits real good, maybe too good. You have to put some effort in it to pull the cable out.
