    Hi folks,

Six years ago, I bought a Pinnacle Studio DC10+ capture card. It was a great little capture card, until one day, it suddenly and unexpectedly got stuck on NTSC capture. Wouldn't let me select PAL capture at all. So I went to various forums asking for help. Someone in Europe emailed me a .dll from a DC30+ capture card and I installed it in my Windows/System directory and everything suddenly worked fine.

Flash forward six years. I've got a new dual-core PC running WinXP Pro. I installed my old DC10+ capture card, hoping to archive some of my old VHS videos. First of all, the Studio 1.05 software didn't install at all. It gave me an error message saying, "Not compatible with Windows 2000." OK, fine, whatever. So I got a hold of Studio 8, installed it, and whaddya know, the old "stuck on NTSC" problem is back. But now I can't fix it with a simple .dll. On my old PC, there used to be a handy little system tray utility which I could open up and change the video source format. But with Studio 8, there is no such utility. To select NTSC or PAL, you have to do it from within the program. Problem is, even when I set it to PAL, the video in the preview window is still obviously NTSC, i.e. it's black and white, even if I know for a fact that it's supposed to be colour. And the frame shape looks distorted - definitely NTSC.

I open AMcap and click on video capture filter, and a Pinnacle dialog box comes up with different video settings. The only item listed under "Video Input Standard" is NTSC. No PAL. Not even Secam. All three should be there. Can anyone help me get this damn thing into PAL capture mode?

  2. G'Day Mate!

I have the exact same problem!!

I haven't used it for about 2 years and it was sitting in my old PC in the cupboard!

been using DV now and hadn't used analog tape in quite a while and a friend asked me to convert a few VHS's of his wedding ect to DVD for him and i remembered the dc10+ !!

Well...the hdd on the old pc with win98 is long gone so i installed the dc10+ on my new pc running WinXP and had hooked up the VCR to the input and PAL composite monitor to the output for preview

found the original studio 8 disks and installed them on xp...no issue with install

as soon as it found the drivers the colour bars came on the monitor all ok, in full colour

when i opened studio 8 the monitor went black and white and picture shrinked! i guessed it was ntsc as it just the same with the playstation on that monitor when it's running in ntsc!

tried re-installing drivers, studio 8, everything! but all useless! it's stu k in ntsc

under the amcap tool pal is no longer there even!!!

i was wondering if you ever solved this issue and what you did

please email me directly on stanley@9h1lo.net as i'm gonna have to go buy a tuner card or something coz these tapes are of a good friend and i promised i'll make them!

    thanks

    Stan
