    why? you wont get any real stereo from the mono so it is not worth the trouble.

    Use something like besweet or ffmpeggui to convert the audio to PCM (.wav) and load it into audacity. If you only have one channel, copy it into a second so you have joint-stereo (2 channel mono). Now spend a lot of time carefully tweaking the panning and volume of the two channels to create some semblance of stereo seperation. Save the results out as wav (2 channels, 48khz). Use ffmpeggui to convert the wav to 2.0 AC3 and reauthor. All the tools mentioned are freeware.

    It will be a lot of effort for moderate effect. Whether or not it is worth it is up to you.

    Creating 2.0 isn't too bad... 5.1 is a pain in the arse!

    I understand his question, if the mono only comes out of one speakers. I would prefer to have mono from both speakers.

    Decompile the DVD, open the audio in an audio editor and copy the good channel over the blank channel, re-author, and re-burn.

  6. find at tool on the left, a dvd ripper or demux, rip the audio, and then with an audio editor fill in the blank channel.

    then use an video editor and import the new audio file.

    I have a number of mono discs, but the mono always comes out the centre speaker in AC3 mode, or both speakers if sent down as PCM. I have never had a disc where the audio came out only one side.

    Dolby isn't part of the VCD spec, and given 'ts wider dynamic range, would probably sound quieter than the original. Demux your VCD, filter the audio in audacity to increase the volume, and either put it back into a VCD, or author to DVD by upsampling to 48khz when you save it.

    how to make a joint 2 channel recording was already explained - let´s go a little further:
    if you want also some 2.0 three-dimensionality there are many methodes around - the easiest in my opinion is to delay one channel with ~500ms - the results are interesting

    I had my VCR set wrong once. It was set to left side out only when I recorded to my DVD recorder. I simply selected mono in Virtualdub then I had sound from both sides. Still wasn't true stereo but hey...it fixed my goof-up.
    You can also increase the volume in Virtualdub.

    Open mpeg in virtualdub .
    Under audio , set to full processing
    Under audio , set compression to none
    Under audio , conversion , set to 48khz , 16bit , stereo
    Save as wav

    Convert if required to other formats via besweet .

    Simple , fast , and effective .

  15. Besweet preset "25->23.976" requries "stereo 48khz"

    I used Virtualdubmpeg2,
    go to in audio menu, select full processing mode.
    Select conversion
    Go to file menu and save wave if thats what you want.

    Thanks for the help... but I installed Virtualdubmpeg2, opened the file, changed to full processing mode and converted to stereo, but I couldn't save the file. A message would come up and tell me "No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format. (source format tag: 2000)" Do I need to download a decompressor or what.

    The editing program I am using is Cyberlink Power director v3

    hi Aaargh..sorry,i answered the topic and the first questions only and kidding.

    first my advice again: take care with the size.after the audio is converted to stereo the size will encrease!

    if you really want to do it,i did some with this tools:
    tmpgenc-->file--->tools-->demultiplex!
    you'll get the audio and video files.
    (after that we will try to recognize the audio format.)

    here we still don't know what format is the audio but after recognized convert to wave and then from mono to stereo.
    convert the stereo audio to the desired format again(mp2,ac3...)

    to mux audio and video again use the same tmpgenc for vcds/svcds and for dvds use tmpgencdvdauthor and build menus,chapters,etc.
    remeber: vcds can be authored in dvds!

    regards.(excuse my typos and poor english)
