Hello, I am new here. I have Premiere 6.0 and I am using Windows XP Pro. My problem is I capture video in Premiere, when I go to play it back in the source, monitor or timeline, there is no audio. I can import music and add it in the timeline and that plays fine. I also have Pinnacle and Nero and the audio is fine in both of those. I have not been able to find an answer in using search. Thanks .....JMB

What are you capturing from? I've noticed a similar issue in Premiere Pro when capturing from my Canopus ADVC 100 and transferring from my DV camcorder. If I disconnect the device after capturing the sound comes back. A little annoying, but I've gotten used to it.

I tried capturing a new video file and then disconnecting the camera source. Still no audio when I play back even though it show audio captured in the time line. Like I stated before, I can delete audio in time line and then replace with music file and the music audio will then play in source, monitor and time line. There must be some setting somewhere that I am missing. Thanks again for your reply and if anyone else may have an idea, thanks. ..JMB

I'm not sure about 6.5, but in the PPro version, there's something in the Playback setting...
It defaults to playback audio from a DV source..Uncheck this to playback audio from your software..
It's on a flyout (little triangle) above the right top of the monitor window...

    Good luck!!!

You still didn't explain how you are capturing. Is "old 8mm" a DV Digital8? If normal 8mm you must be using some capture hardware.

DV format audio is uncompressed PCM and should go to the timeline as uncompressed.

There are big differences between v6.0 and v6.5. v6.0 had many problems and updates but it should work with DV format. v6.5 is what you should be using. It is stable and includes the Mainconcept MPeg2 encoder. v7 (premiere Pro 1.0) was a complete rewrite.

Playback settings are defaulted to suit playback via desktop..
For whatever strange reason (regardless of capture technique), the playback settings get changed, such that the audio needs to be unchecked again..

    Quite strange..

I suspect he is capturing audio at something other than the project format setting. If that is the case he would need to render the timeline to hear his audio. That assumes the audio format matches the v6.0 supported import list.

Thanks for the feedback. I am capturing from my Sony Handycam Vision video 8 XR CCD-TRV57 NTSC camera. It uses 8mm tapes. Maybe this will help with what information I need. I am new to using this software so I am in the dark about alot of what my settings should be. I did order a handbook and have been doing the lessons and did not find anything that could explain what is happening in there. Thanks again....JMB[/b]

In order to capture from a CCD-TRV57 8mm camcorder, you need to connect the yellow/red/white cables to something. What hardware are you connecting the camcorder to? What capture settings are you using in Premiere? What device is capturing?

So the Dazzlee 80 is your focus. If is modifying the audio (probably video too) to something other than what Premiere 6.0 expected to see back in 2001-2002.

Great!!!! Maybe now I am getting close to solving the problem. What other devie or hardware should I be using to get my audio. Hopefully now I will be on my way to getting the full benifits of Premiere. I really like all of the elements of it. Thanks again for staying with me.....JMB[/b]
