  1. Ok, I have been given an Xvid video that was somehow converted to that from a mini DVD (from a camcorder). The file is 22 minutes long, 550 megs and plays fine in Windows Media Player with sound and video.

I imported it into Adobe Premiere 2.0 where it shows it has some kind of audio track, but premiere doesn't know/recgnize/strips it/I don't know. In short, once it was in Premiere, the video had lost it's sound.

Browsing some Premiere help places, I found this: http://ppro.wikia.com/wiki/Software#Xvid which basically states that Xvid and Premiere don't get along and to convert the video to either Uncompressed AVI or DV AVI. I downloaded STOIK and tried both conversions (hello 63GB video file) and both time it would give me a video with no sound.

I went and downloaded Goldwave to try and extract the sound out and re-add manually once in Premiere, but when I load the video into Goldwave, it opens fine, but just shows the video as being silent as well.

To make sure I wasn't insane, I go watch the video and it still works fine, video and audio.

Any idea what the heck is going on?

  2. Use Gspot to determine the audio type. Probably AC3. If so install an AC3 filter.

  3. That solved so many problems, it's not even funny. Now a straight import into Premiere works like a charm. Wow, can't believe I missed that.

Thank you sir, you've done more than advil could of done for this headache of a problem
