I am trying to copy a home video on VHS to a DVD. I am using a 8X DVD+R. How do you tell if it is a RW? What kind of DVD'S should I buy? 8X 16X etc.?

First, the owners manual should tell you what speed disc to buy. Or you might try the Polaroid site:
http://www.polaroid.com/select_country.jsp;jsessionid=FpyLR3YlLG17nH2GTtGn 8nXJ4LZhdgK283v9GL7B3g6r2dGv4Jc9!-2124621506?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441764403&FOL DER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302032643&bmUID=11638175 44115&bmLocale=en_US
Second, check this thread for information on media brands and speeds:

Third, the RW discs I've used all state "RW" on the case and disc. If your coumpter has DVD burning software you can use that software to check your discs. You can also use DVDInfoPro to check your discs for numerous things.
Good luck.
