Try some different DVD media. Not all of it is compatible with all burners and it's the easiest thing to change. BTW, a DVD-ROM is a reader only. I assume you mean a DVD-RW, which would be a writer or burner?

Do you know the model of the drive? You should be able to see the model in: Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager>DVD/CD-ROM Drives.

A little more information would help.

OK, you can look up your burner to the left in 'DVD Writers' and see what other members use for media with that drive. Unless there is a problem with your burner, it should have no problem recognizing a blank disc. However, the brand of disc you are using would have to be compatible with the firmware on your burner for it to be recognized and enable it to burn properly. It's easier to try a different media that is more compatible with your burner than to change the firmware.

Whenver I have "scratchy" sounding music cd's, it is from using cheap media. I've never had the problem with quality, name brand media.
