streaming video to computer with low cpu-speed

hello

i have a lot of video on my computer (divx,xvid,dvd,wmv,real,...) and i want to stream it to my tv. i can access the video with my laptop(connected to the tv) over lan. the problem is that the laptop is to slow to play avi,divx,xvid.
is there any software for my computer that decodes the video and sends it to my laptop in mpeg-1
without loosing the play,fastforward,etc and menu-functions

VLC can stream to mpeg1 to your laptop.

You could also try tversity and stream to low resolution wmv.
