I dont know if I am doing something wrong. I have a 800MB MP4 file and the encoded video is about 4.5gb. Nero is taking over 6 hrs to burn onto a DVD using a burner at 24x max speed. Does it take this long? I am new to this..

As you've not disclosed one cruicial piece of information - how long is the video? - It's impossible to answer, but:
Making the assumption that it's a std movie length (1.5-2 hrs), 6 hours doesn't sound odd at all for a 1.6 GHz machine.

Source file size is irrelevant. Length in time is what counts when converting between formats (which is really what Nero's up to, at least 5.45 of your 6 hours - not burning).

Yeah I have a pretty fast setup, but when burning something into an mp4 format it took at least as long as the DVD was. So 3 hour movie took 3 hours to convert.
