    Hey!

I have a moderatly powerful system by todays standards.

    64bit 3400
    geforce 7600 256mb
    SATA drives
    all correct drivers installed

But i am having problems playing quicktime HD movies through quicktime.

I'm pretty sure this is a software problem as I assume my sys is capable of HD at this quality?

I have latest chipset and such installed as i know that can give media problems too.

Using latest forceware drivers. Now just waiting to download a HD demo vid for windows media player so I can rule out quicktime or such as the culprit but untill then anyone else have any ideas as to what it could be ?

    Many thanks

hmm just as i thought. windows media player plays 1080i just fine, smooth as can be.

It's quicktime and something that is causing the problems.

I'll give quicktime alt a try. What extra (if any) codecs would i need for HD on quicktime alt?

Quicktime is just crap, especially more so under windows (decoding of AVC is actually ok speed wise under OSX I hear).

You would need to wait for someone to release a 3rd party decoder (either coreAVC (probably their component is OSX only) or a libavcodec port (also probably OSX only)).

Yeah, you're not using the CoreAVC decoder that comes with Quicktime Alternative. Download the 1080i file, then change the extension from .MOV to .HDMOV - that'll make Windows search through its DirectShow codecs to play the file, which is what CoreAVC is BTW, the commercial version of CoreAVC is only $10 and it's significantly better than the one that comes with QuicktimeAlt.

Also don't think distributing the old 0.0.4 build of coreavc is legal. Shouldn't need to change extensions either. In MPC you can change quicktime to dshow in the formats option tab. Don't think 0.0.4 supported interlaced decoding either.

Cool, I'll give this a go!

Quicktime is bullshit I agree. Had to 'reluctantly' install it because of itunes. Set it to associate with only the files it needed to (.mov etc) even in MIME types yet it's still hell bent on loading mp3 streams from the net instead of winamp! Hell!

    lol

Cheers for the advice. I'll let yall know.
