hello, i recently made a backup of an original dvd, it went well, i used dvdfab platinum.

anyway, the dvd copy plays on my pc, but it doesnt play at all on my pioneer dv-383.

the media that i am using has worked in the past, i have made many dvds with it and have never had any playback issues.

so the crux of the problem is that the dvd copied, but only plays on pc, and not on my dvd player, which has played other dvds using the same media. is there anything that i am missing in the setup with my copying?

Just because the media has worked in the past dose not guarantee it will always be reliable ... bad batch's do appear in every brand .

As for dvdfab ... it's handy most of the time ... but as you found ... problem's .

It depend's on how this dvd was authored ... some include dummy ifo's , that dvdfab dosent handle ... it just decrypt's the content to the hd , and the rest is left to you .

    ---------------------------

I would suggest you download pgcedit , and go down to the bottom of the website for the plugins ... there are a few other tool's required , such as dvddecrypter , and dvdshrink ... there could be other's ... but that's why you need to visit the site for pgcedit .

Install the required tool's as instructed ... place the ripped dvd copy into your dvdrom ... fireup pgcedit and follow the prompts , till it's finished all task's .

This should provide you with atleast a dvd title that should be fine .

It is best to use the original dvd in this task .

    ---------------------------

If you can do without menu's and such , you could rip the video and audio stream from the main title vob's using vobedit (files must be on hard drive) ... and simply reauthor using ifoedit , or muxman .

Dvdauthorgui if you want to add a simple menu interface for the disc .

    ---------------------------

Pgcedit can partially do the same thing .

Rip / copy main title vobs to folder , along with it's matching ifo and bup files .
Run pgcedit , open dvd , load the title from this folder .

The trick here is knowing which vob / ifo refers to the menu of the dvd , you may need to playback the vob's in playback software on the pc to determin which vob contains the menu ... once located .

Back in pgcedit , left click on main title in left frame , then right click it and choose , import menu , and load the ifo with the matching id as for the menu vob ... if asked what to do , say yes to copy vob ... this will add the menu vob , ifo and bup to the same folder where the title vob is .

From here it's a bit of work checking navigational command's so the thing work's properly .

This depend's on what the title include's in the way of multiple audio and subtitle's ... and the menu's structure , as there will be buttons linked to non-existing content (nop them should prevent problems) ... and not to forget about those chapter menu nav commands ...

    -----------------------------

In any case , it's best for newbies to edit the nav command's to simply direct play of the title from insertion ... and include one instruction set that define's the audio / subtitle that play's automatically ... if you dont , some player's have weird idea's as to what actually get's played ... best to tell them .

Or just use the remote to turn them off , or change them .

oh, i also should add that this is the first time that i am using dvdfab, as i was using nero startsmart before and found that my nero was a bit dated.
i switched to dvdfab, and i assumed it burnt successfully as that was the message it gave me.

i dont think its a media issue as i have burnt using the exact same disks many times and they play fine on both my pc and player.

im guessing its something to do with the dvdfab setup
