What was used for that movie? I like to timeshift and watch on projection screen.

Probably from a good non-interlaced / progressive source. You can't get same quality from a captured analog interlaced source.

Divx player also includes playback filters to help smooth out the blockiness, and the lower gamma of your PC screen also hides a lot of flaws that show up on TVs and projectors. The cutting out is most likely an issue with the burn or the media.
