I have an Avi file that I wanted to spilt then convert and burn to 2 dvds. I know how to convert avi to burn, but I have never had to split one. So I looked it up and learned how to use Virtualdub to split the file. After splitting the file both files seem fine but when I convert the first half= movie1 it has audio sync problems. Movie2 has no problems at all. I looked on the net to see what I was doing wrong and found out that you must cut on keyframes to aviod this problem I did this and still no luck. I am somewhat of a newbie but I have always been self-reliant and have turned to google in times of darkness but I having been looking for 2 days haven't been able to find a solution to my particular problem.
Thanks in advance!

Need more details.
What kind of AVI file? DivX or XviD or DV etc.
What kind of audio? CBR MP3 or VBR MP3 or PCM WAV or AC-3 etc.
How are you converting it to DVD ... what software? ... what steps exactly?
The answer to all questions of a technical nature is always found in the details. The more you give the better.
You have given very nearly nothing.
So what help can I or anyone else give you?
Please try again.

Well, first let me thank John "Fulcilives" Coleman for his Condescending remarks. Instead of simply asking for more info, he felt it necessary to seek validation by talking down to admitted newbie who posted in the newbie section! But nonetheless he does have a good point I should provide more info so here it is: the file is an xvid avi
Audio= MP3 48000Hz 112 kb/s CBR (2ch Stereo)
Video= 752 kbps XviD 25000 FPS
Q. Frame[ 0.210 bits*pixel
Resolution=[ 588 x 238 (2.410 (53:22))
All needed codecs installed
Conversion programs used:
Nerovision, Diko, Avi2dvd, and avi2svcd
All have given the same result
I do very much need and appreciate help. But given a choice between rudeness and no reply I chose no reply.
Thanks in advance -
I think you are overreacting here. You must understand that many people come here for video help and very few offer the needed information up front and that makes it very difficult for anyone to help them. What FulciLives ask and the way he ask it was ok in my openion. I see nothing 'Condescending'.
I would imagine that 25fps is your problem. You are USA (NTSC) so your programs are converting it to 29.97fps. But that is just my guess. FulciLives will know whats wrong.
Good luck and welcome to the forum. -
1. The remarks don't sound the least bit condescending to me.
2. He doesn't need validation, least of all by you, who joined earlier today. He's been helping people here for a very long time now.
3. Have you ever heard the saying, "Don't bite the hand that feeds you"?
4. Whoever made that AVI didn't know what he was doing.
5. I don't know how long that thing is (you didn't say), but even if 4 hours long there's no point at all in splitting it up to make 2 DVDs. I assume your aim is to preserve or enhance the quality, or some such nonsense. But the resolution is so very low to begin with that making it into 2 DVDs won't help and this splitting exercise is pointless. Your best bet, in my opinion, is to keep it in one piece and make it 352x240 if for NTSC and 352x288 if for PAL.
6. As Scorpion King mentioned, your asynch audio could very well result from changing the framerate from PAL fps to NTSC fps. I don't use any of the programs you mentioned, so I don't know for sure how they make the conversion from PAL to NTSC (if that's what you tried to do). -
Well I have two suggestions ...
1.) Convert to a single MPEG-2 file then cut it in half.
2.) Demux the audio from the AVI and convert to PCM WAV then recombine that with the avi video and then cut the avi into two parts.
I suggest using FitCD with CCE or TMPGEnc Plus instead of the "garbage" software you are using now. I know that sounds harsh but those programs leave a lot to be desired.
Also if you need to do PAL to NTSC then read up on using DGPulldown. I have a guide on it in the guides section.

*** EDIT ***
I type slow because when I started manono's comment wasn't there but he does have a point about not splitting but what is the length? Also I would maybe try for Half D1 resolution maybe I dunno that is a low resolution now that I think of it."The eyes are the first thing that you have to destroy ... because they have seen too many bad things" - Lucio Fulci

Perhaps I did over react a bit. I am just a little frustrated is all so I apologize. Also you all have been very helpful. FulcilLives apparently you are very knowledgeable and it was very admirable and big of you to still offer help after my comment, so thanks. Now to answer you length questions, the movie is about 2 and a half hours. This probably sounds dumb but I didn’t think I could put in on one 4.7 gig dvd without major loss of quality due to it being longer than 2hrs. It looks like I have some reading to do to help me understand and fully utilize the suggestions so far. Tomorrow I will post with my progress incase anyone still feels like helping. Either way if it wasn’t for this website and its members I wouldn’t even be allowed in the dvd section of my local video rental store.
Thanks again,

I tried to force that resolution and I couldn't LOL
So yeah whomever made that had no clue what they were doing.
Again use FitCD to resize to Half D1 (called 1/2 DVD in FitCD) and encode that way to fit onto a single DVD. It will be WIDESCREEN but not 16x9 WS.
If you want to make it 16x9 WS then it might be a better idea to split it over 2 discs or 1 dual layer disc.
