OK I've looked at Adobe Premiere and Vegas 7. These seem too complex for my needs. I just want to take say 10 video clips (DV from camera) and make menu with the 10 vids as buttons and maybe add an extra picture slideshow button.

So far Nero Vision seems good in this regard (I believe Roxio does something similar).

But I really need to edit (start/finish frames) on a number of .AVI /.MPG files. Vision does not seem to support this and I am not sure if Roxio does. So what is the best software to set start/end frame in .AVI and .MPG?

If you are planning on doing this as a hobby, and want something simple and an all in one, look at something like Ulead Video Studio 9 or 10, Ulead DVD Movie Factory, or Adobe Premiere Elements is a step up, and is a simpler version of Adobe Premiere, but with wizards, and is a bit more user friendly, but still has a lot of the power of Adobe Premiere. If you like being a hands on person, you can look at avisynth, virtualdub, tmpgenc, and an assortment of other free programs that some folks like to use. Me, I use Adobe Premiere 6.5, or Vegas 5, but thats just because I have a lot of ex's to cut out of my video clips, and I need all that control... I have used Ulead Studio 7 and it has created movies that are nearly as good as the ones I do with Vegas, I just don't have all the controls and goodies with Studio.
