  1. I am wanting to find a program that will convert avi files to DVD and also generate basic menus with each avi as a chapter in the menu.

I too have been trying to do this and here's what worked for me. Although it wasn't perfect clarity I had a two minute video that was AVI about 550mb. Anyhow I downloaded a trial of winavi and this allows you to turn the avi into a dvd ready format. That whole video TS thing it turns it into. HOWEVER when I burned it it still would not play. So I downloaded TMPGNC and that added the necessary components to allow it to be burned and DVD and read by any player.

Problem is unless you buy winavi you get a little white sentence in the middle of the movie. TMPGNC DVD Author has a 30 day trial, but let's you do whatever you want for that 30 days.

    Hope that helps.
