  1. My mom is lookin to buy a panasonic 53'' plasma tv. I was wondering what you all think of plasma tvs. The guy at circuit city said that plasmas have come along way and that they don't burn out as fast as they use to, is that true? Is there any other info that you guys think I need to know please share.
    Thanks for your time.

Plasma still has the edge for blacks and details, but only if you get the current (7th) generation screens with a good engine (e.g. Pioneer). If you are going for cheaper or older models it probably doesn't matter as much. A lot of cheaper plasmas only have a screen resolution of 864 x 480, which looks horrible at large sizes. They are cheaper than LCDs to run, but are more prone to burn in than LCD.

But ultimately it is her money and she has to watch it. If she is happy . . . . . .

As guns1inger pointed out, I would worry about the 720p on a 50" tv.

I don't have one but will be in the market soon and will be having similar questions. Just a few dollars more:
