I Have a vfr mkv file I got online. It is an anime. However, I want to watch it on a television instead of a computer. So I use MKVToolnix to extract everything, and I find my video and audio are different lengths. I determined that's becaue of VFR. So I want to make it become CFR instead. I used MKVToolnix to extract all the timecodes as well, so i have timecodes and cfr avis that arent the right length. I need to determine how to convert this vfr mkv video to a cfr avi video, and now that i have the timecode i am clueless as to how i can use it to fix my video. The end goal is to get it on a dvd, with a number of other episodes and a nice little menu.

how do I correct this in a way that keeps my audio and video in synch (althought I dont know how to change the framerate to begin with I know that the average frame rate gives me the right length but nonmatching audio). I've searched around on this site and on google for about 5 hours and I've come up with nothing.

If someone can help me with this issue it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, I hope someone knows what I need to do.

For DVD, I guess you could the time codes to encode each part at the given framerate. Then set pulldown flags to make the whole thing 29.97fps. What's this about avi though?

The reason I said AVI is because thats the type of file mkvextract makes when i rip the video out. after that i need to convert it to mpeg2 as i have it now. if theres a way to skip the avi and go straight to mpeg2 and keep the audio and video in synch that would be great but im not sure how, and im also not sure how to save each piece of the video with different frame rates then compile them together. maybe this should be under one of the more advanced forums because this is a little more complicated than ripping a dvd to avi. from what ive seen anyways. Any help is better than I've gotten so far. I need some instruction on what to do with what I've got. I still have the original mkv files also, if that matters.

    So to summarize.
MKV File-> want it on DVD
Extract mkv file contents, convert ogg audio to wav.
video and audio are different lengths, by about 3 minutes. (VFR did that when the video extracted to avi)
Extracted the timecodes for the video

what do i do to get the whole thing to match up timewise, and keep the audio in synch, and can it be done in bulk (9 videos)

    ---Edit: Nevermind

I figured out that If I use virtualDubMod, turn off all audio channels and svae as avi with the direct streaming on, because it doesn't properly support vfr it automatically converts the mkv's video to cfr. This solves all my problems and removes a huge amount of hassle. Thanks for the forums, I pieced together what to do by reading all over.

Surely that just sets the average frame rate? Or it is outputting ~120fps with inserted drop frames?

I dont know what the frame rate it uses is but it inserts the extra frames. which solves my problem perfectly
