I have a bunch of ac3 and mp2 files that I ripped/demuxed from a Canon Video Camera-created mini-dvd (actually six of them). Altogether about 100 files equaling 4 GB. I would like to create a dvd with DVDMaestro (which loves the files by the way) but I want to edit them together first into a more interesting video.
But neither Vegas nor Avid Xpress Pro will import the files. They are standard mpeg2 files. I tried muxing them into .mpg files, no luck. I am looking for a SOURCE CREATOR for these programs. I would like to create either .aaf files or .mlx files I think. I don't want to re-encode the files unless necessary, because they are already DVD-ready.
    How do I do this?

Many advanced editors doesn't support mpeg2 and if they do it requires entire reencoding. You can do basic joining and cutting without reencoding using for example Videoredo, Mpegvcr, Tmpgenc mpeg editor. If you want more advanced nle editing try Mpeg Video Wizard, it will only reencode transitions effects between clips.

If you prefer vegas or other editors you can convert the mpeg2 to dv-avi for example with VirtualDub-Mpeg2,VirtualdubMOD.

and I'm moving you to our editing forum.

Or if you are a "Prosumer" player with some $$, you would go this way with Premiere Pro.

Note that there is a cheaper "Elements" version.
