  1. Well i finally got around to buying the QT pro and the mpeg-2 component for QT-7 on my MP with 10.4.7

the QTPro seems to work, the two edit tabs on the bottom etc

but Im not sure the MPEG-2 component is properly installed.

QT won't open the HDTV files my Miglia miniHD creates, nor will MPEG Streamclip 1.7

did I do something wrong? I rebooted after installing apples MPEG-2 component but can't get much father

    any suggestions?

    cheers and thanks

  2. a little more info for you from ratting around:

if I open Streamclip and ask for all files rather than "video" while I examine the recorded files from ElGato and Miglia there are three files in the "elgato/miglia" file:
    .eyetvi
    .eyetvp
    .eyetvr
    .mpg

Streamclip opens the .mpg file not the others that seem to be 'hidden'
by that I mean that QTPro will not see the .mpg file in the "elgato/miglia' file or folder

get info on the miglia file says that its a kind; eyeTV recording

what does this mean? why can't QTPro see the mpg file

Did you restart and all that for the QT MPEG2 component? Is it the Intel or the PPC version? Your Apple account will make the Intel version available if you already bought the PPC one.

As for the contents of EyeTV recording files, they have a lot of different kinds of data about schedules and edits and so forth. The actual mpg transport stream files are pretty rough and ready with a lot of metadata. In the EyeTV program window, you're better off exporting the recording as a Program Stream, which does a lot to clean it up and fix timecode breaks and so on. Try that exported file.
