  1. hi, I am a teacher and am making a Remembrance Day presentation. I have chosen to use ULEAD VIDEOSTUDIO 10 to do this.

I have loaded my video and want to extract 40 seconds of an interview. I select my times and click the mark in and mark out buttons.

Sometimes it keeps the length of the clip and other times it adds 10 seconds or so. It seems to vary.

I have finally got my clip I want to use, but now I want to do another edit and now I have 2 files I can choose from. Do I use the original again or the newly made one of 40 seconds, which has the entire length of the interview if I click project beside the play button and make another cut from that even though it is further into the interview...?

And if it is the original, what do I click on to make it accessible for my next edit?

Also,,,when I do make a cut, or at least mark the start and stop, sometimes the scissors icon to cut it isn't available. How do I change that???

Another problem is the length of the clip seems top change. I use the mark in and mark out and play it once. the nxt time it is longer by about 15 to 20 seconds. Why? Is there a simple setting I am just not seeing here?

I hope this isn't too confusing. It is my first time really using this software and I am struggling a bit.
    Thanks

I wish I could help you, but I use Adobe Premiere, not Ulead VS.

You may want to wait several days before bumping your post. Also know that Mon-Thurs (USA times) tends to be the busiest on the site, not weekends. More folks to help then.

Bumping your post means to post in your own thread to move it to the top of the forum list in hopes of making it more noticable. If you aren't getting a response it's usually because no-one currently on the board can help. I stopped using Ulead products at version 5 or 6 so I don't think I can help you.

    Usually not, no.

Words/phrases/abbreviations like this are good to know on a forum: thread, post, topic, bump, OT, LOL, LMAO, BTW, IMO, IMHO, RTFM, smilies, bbcode, signature, avatar, PM, printer-friendly, .... just to name a few.

  8. Hi, I am getting there... I used VIDEOREDO.

    thanks.

  9. My next question is the actual interview. I want to cut it into 6 pieces totaling about 3 minutes.
Each segment varies in length of 30 seconds to 1 minute.

Should I cut it by creating a separate project and inserting the video from that to my good copy? Or is there an easier way of adding it within?

My next question is which track do I add the video interview to (on the bottom)? Is it the video track, overlay track, title track? Do I do it in time line view? The reason I ask is when I add the video (on the video bar) it adds it right after some images I have. The thing is I have the poem (on the title track) to be after the images and THEN the interview video, but it adds it after the images and not the poem...

What do I need to do ?

    Thanks
    Matt

The main video track is where you put your still images, video files, color stills, etc, that makes up the bulk of the movie. This is where you would normally work. This is where you create your timeline of the project.

The overlay track is what it says, overlay. The weatherman is a good example of the use of the overlay track. The weatherman stands in front of a green screen and points at nothingness. The editor takes his video feed and places it in the overlay track. The green screen (croma key) is keyed out by the program (255 green) so it becomes transparent. The main video track is where the weather map feed goes. Since the weatherman is not wearing 255 green he is not transparent in the overlay track so he appears to be on-top of (or in front of) the main video track. Another example of the overlay track is the news ticker on CNN that flows across the bottom of the tv screen. That ticker would be in the overlay track. Or something like that.

Next is the title track. With Ulead, as far as I remember, you just got to type in that poem the old fashion way, key by key. I do recommend you save your work pretty often though. Never know.

The 2 audio tracks are similar to the video track, main and overlay. The idea here is to have background music playing the main audio track then record through a microphone telling those that are watching what they are looking at. The other audio tracks is the audio streams that may be in the video tracks.

Needless to say that upon export all this stuff gets all mixed together into a normal file, video and audio. Those titles will be forever burned into the video, regardless what you do.

If you notice I placed a black color still at the end of your video. I do that to create the timeline. You need it because you have a title placed there. I never tried it but I don't think Ulead will place a color still to cover your title placements, I think it's all manual. So I would place color stills (of the proper length) to cover the placements of other items like titles and audio clips.

As for your video interview.... Think about it like you are watching it on the tv. The video flows, so it's your job to determine how you want it to flow. You must put those clips where (in the timeline) you want them. They will play in the overlay track but they will coverup everything under them (in the main track) because there is no transparent areas in them and they are not croma keyed 255 green or 255 blue. Also the overlay track limits you to simple fade in fade out, no transitions can be put there.

So, add some color stills if you don't want video where those titles are, and I think you will see that creating the 'timeline' is very important. Actually that is what everything else is going by.

    Good luck
    Hope this helps

Lets assume your interview video is one long piece, and you want to cut it into several shorter clips. Actually that is something you will be doing quite often with that program. It's like cutting out commercials from a captured movie.

Drag the entire interview video onto the timeline where you want it to begin. You will see it in the preview window. Drag the slider to your desired -in point- then click the in-point button ( [ ). Drag the slider to the -out point- then hit the out point button ( ] ). You are now only using a segment of the long video. To use other segments you simply repeat this procedure but set different in - out points. Heres a photo. You can also use the time ticks, advance buttons on the play control, or simply play the file and push pause when you get it where you want one of the in-or-out points, then hit the button.

    Good luck.

A color still is like a color slide. You choose Color from the drop down list box then drag in the desired color onto the timeline. Once there you can give the color still any amount of time to display that you need. I use color stills like at the end of a presentation to roll credits over. I generally use black, but you can choose from many different colors. You can also create you own custom color stills by creating a HQ photo file then put that on the timeline instead of the simple color still. Very easy .

    Hope this helps.
    Good luck.
