Hey, I have a Philips DVP-642 and it plays DivX 3.11/4.x/5.x files. I have some divx files, such as the matrix, that won't play *correctly* on the Philips divx dvd player. I'm not whiz but I'm going to assume it's because the divx format isn't proper. I have been searching for quite some time for a program that will let me convert divx x.x to divx 5.x so i can make these incompatible files a proper divx format... anyone have any suggestions?
also, sorry if this is a common post, but i've gotten A LOT of help from this website over the last 2 years, but this is my first time I haven't been able to figure something out on my own... so i have finally created a username. don't flame me![]()

Just load the file into Virtualdub, click the video tab, hit CTRL+P, select the codec you require, hit the audio tab, select direct stream copy, hit the file tab and select save as AVI. Next time you rip a film use the right codec

What Ai Haibara said. It may not have necessarily been the wrong codecs or Divx types, it may have been the settings they were encoded with, namely GMC or Qpel. But AVIRecomp should fix them.
Check your player manual and it should tell you what is required for proper play. If you are encoding them yourself, a encoding program like avi.NET or similar can create a proper Divx/Xvid file for settop players.
And welcome to our forums. -
Ai Haibara's suggestion worked like a charm! Now it's time to start the painfull process of setting all my ripped divx's into the queue to convert them... sigh.

Glad to be of (some) help.

sometimes it's not necessary to recompile all the video. You can just change the codec four character code of the avi file to the desired code, for instance "XVID" to "DX50" and fake the DVD reader.
DVdate has a command to make this operation instantly.Paul Glagla
