    Hi,

I have bought a DVD region 2 (France) because it was not available in Quebec (Canada) in french. Now I want to make me a BackUp in region 1 so I can watch it on my TV. How can I do?

    Thanks

Several ways. Perhaps the easiest is to use the freeware DVDShrink. You could burn to a dual layer disc if you want 100% original size or a regular DVD-5 if you don't mind a little compression. Or alternatively, 2 discs. Either way, the region protection would be removed. Most any program that will back up a commercial disc will remove the region protection.

But if the disc is PAL (Europe) and your system will only play NTSC (US and Japan) then that could be a problem.

    And welcome to our forums.

Have a look at this tool, and specifically the two guides associated with it.

    https://www.videohelp.com/tools?toolsearch=dgpulldown&Submit=Search&s=&orderby=Name&hit...uthorfeatures=

One of them uses tmpgenc, but any good encoder will do. This tool is the most relaible method, with the least issues. There are a coupleof caveats though

    1. You lose all menus
    2. It involves re-encoding, which always carries a risk of quality loss.

By far the simplest solution is a player capable of playing PAL discs.

Most (if not all) rippers remove the region code as part of the ripping process. However, a TV system conversion may be needed too. What is a French disc? SECAM? What do you have in Canada? NTSC?

It will be PAL spec, although it may have secam flag set for playback.

    Hi Mats,

Like you wrote before, the problem must with the different system TV because with AnyDVD or DVD Region Free I can play it on my PC but does not work on the DVD player on the TV. The DVD from France is PAL and our TV system in Canada is NTSC.

    Thanks for taking time

OK, search this site for "PAL to NTSC" - it's a common problem, with (unfortunately) many different solutions.
