    Hi there,
I'm using my pc to edit and reauthor a dvdr which was made in an LG dvd recorder. Adding some black frames to the start and end, and spliced in a short segment. I followed a tutorial here on doing the editing part, and it plays fine in 'Shrink. After running it thru TDA for making a menu/redoing chapters, the audio is not synched. I've done this edit/reauthoring before with other dvds and never had this audio problem. Could it be the LG recording is screwy?

Also, after editing (but before TDAing), I ended up with 69+ chapter video. Because of my TDA problem, I thought I'd take the file at this point and insert it ("replace" with Vobblanker) into my failed TDA file - so I could still use the TDA menu. I needed to re-chapter the video first. But Vobblanker still sees the 69+ chapter points as "cells." The final output has the chapters all messed up. Why is this? Is there a Vobblanker or pgcedit step I need to do?

Not knowing how to fix this otherwise, I took the edited video again and figured I could get rid of the 69+ chapters points by demuxing/remuxing (and then add chapters with Chapter Edit, insert into menu with Vobblanker). However, after remuxing, the audio got out of synch. Again, does this imply the LG recording is screwy? And should I give up with it?

Somewhere in your process I would take your material on a trip through FixVTS. That program is a small miracle.

I did use Fixit a few times, here and there, but isnt fixing this weird audio problem.
Wish there was a manual for Vobblanker, pgcedit, etc.

How come everybody's head is bigger than mine? Avatar, that is? I'm only allowed an 80pixel square image. I gots a pin head.

You didn't say what program you used to do the editing or if the video was reencoded after such. Splicing video parts together either in the same track or the same file, means they should/must be the same framesize, bitrate, etc. Mismatch can/will cause problems. I once spliced a few clips that did not have the same file specs and the program I used did not reencode any of them, but simply spliced them together. The file seemed to play ok during simple testing but showed major problems when viewed.

Simply guessing from here I would say the problem lies in the edit steps. At least that is where I would start looking I think.

    Good luck.

oh yea, your avatar is only 38x48 pixels, not 80x80.

Usually I do some basic editting in TDA (or even 'shrink), then run the file thru Ifoedit to get rid of the pauses, then back in TDA for a menu/chapters.
This time I followed a tutorial using 'shrink, Vobedit and Ifoedit. However, this might not matter because I think there's some LG dvd recorder-TDA incompatibility:
I have two dvdrs (got in trade) made in an LG dvd recorder. I've run them both thru TDA (no editing or even chapters added), and just let TDA assign some default menu. Audio becomes out-of-synch on both. Never seen this before.

The avatar can only be 10 kb max, so I have to shrink it down to aprox. 40sq pixels. I'm using Adobe photoshop. Obviously I'm doing something wrong.

In photoshop you may/should have file - save for web. There you can adjust the quality to get the filesize you want. I'm not sure which versions has this feature. CS has it.

Just an idea, but have you tried this. Test play a few of the original LG vob files from the original dvds in VirtualDubMod or VirtualDubMpeg2. If they play correctly in either of those programs then I would feel pretty assured they are in good shape.

Determining the problem is difficult with no more information that this. lol

    Good luck.

spiritgumm, reduce the colors used by your avatar to the minimum. I think mine uses 64. That saves a lot of space. It also works better to convert the avatar file to gif format.

A good site for avatars and their conversions is: http://www.animationfactory.com/en/ It's mostly for animated gifs, but their tools work on stationary gifs just as well. Just select one of their sample animation gifs, and click 'Edit'. That will give you a new selector. In that window select 'File>File Open' and point it to your own avatar file on your hard drive. From there, the simple tools on the site will let you convert the gif to a minimal size and color count and still get decent quality, then you export it back to your hard drive.

My animated avatar gif is 35 X 64 pixels at 2.03Kbs. Very small.

    EDIT: I just resized it to 44 X 80 at 5.8kbps.

Thanks, citizens. I did the Adobe "save to web" route which worked well for the avatar. Might try the animation factory later.

The LG files play fine in 'shrink and in the pc media player. It's after running it thru TDA or demuxing it that the audio goes out of synch.
I tried playing one file in Virtualdubmod, but didn't hear any audio - are you suppose to hear it?

if it has AC3 audio then you will need to download and install AC3 ACM Decompressor.

    good luck.

    oh yea, nice avatar.

also. once you get the file to play in VD then try to determine if the out of sync is a simple offset (out of sync the same amount throught the entire file) or gradual out of sync (seems to be in sync at the beginning but goes out as the movie plays), or does it go out at some point in the file then stay out... ok.

    later.
