Creating a Slide Show with Captions

The Vegas 6 user's guide* talks about creating a slide show from a number of stills in one fell swoop with crossfades. That's fine. Is it possible to provide captions under the picture for each still? For example, suppose one slide is of Uncle Joe. Is it possible to put a caption below the slide saying Uncle Joe? I see some mechanism elsewhere in Vegas the puts titles on stills, but that's not of interest here.

* Oddly this manual has no real title. The pdf is about 380 pages and there is no title page.

I've used them for text titles, but they don't seem to lend themselves to stills. Is there some plug-in that allows a video/text combo? Or perhaps one just covers the other with a clear background?
