I 've downloaded a movie that has no subs. The button where you choose subtitles,
while the dvd is playing is disabled (grey). So i 'm putting my own subs using one of your
many guides. When i remux the dvd, i see the subs, but when i reauthor it with
VobBlanker (to keep menu, etc.) there are no subs and i cannot choose one either (grey button). I 'm doing all the changes with IfoEdit and PgcEdit, as far as the number and
properties of the subs, but still nothing. When i open the dvd in PgcEdit i get this message:

"There are 2 subpic streams in the VTSI_MAT table of the VTST1."
"0 subpic streams are really used by the PGCs."
"Fix the number of subpic streams in to VTSI_MAT to 0?"

I would appreciate it very much if someone could help me.
    Thanks.

Can you select the subtitles with your remote? (or if you play it using a software DVD player?)
How did you remux the DVD?

I ' m using power dvd on my pc not a TV. The authoring process is this:
    - Reauthor with DVDShrink to keep only the movie (Title1, not menus and stuff)
    - Demux the output with PgcDemux.
    - Fix and syncronise subtiles (added 2 subtitle streams)
    - Convert them to .sup with Txt2Sup
    - Remux with MuxMan (after this fase i have subs)
    - ReAuthor with VobBlanker (after this fase i DON'T have subs)
    - With IfoEdit or PgcEdit (tried both) i 'm editing VIDEO_TS and VTS_01_1.
I change the number of subs from 0 to 2 and i copy their values from the original DVD.
The changes are made in the VMG_VTS_ATRT of VIDEO_TS and
    in the VTSI_MAT of VTS_01_1.

At this point i have to say that this method works everytime, but with DVDs that ALREADY
have subtitle streams. The problem came up when the original DVD had no subtitle streams.

I hope you can understand what i 'm doing.

    Thanks for the reply.

  5. Hi-

I'm a little confused, so forgive me if my questions and answers aren't too clever.

    - ReAuthor with VobBlanker (after this fase i DON'T have subs)

That's to be expected if the original DVD doesn't have subs. I'm assuming that you opened the original DVD that doesn't have subs and then used the "Replace" button to add in your reauthored DVD which has subs, right?

    But here's what I don't understand:

When i open the dvd in PgcEdit i get this message:

"There are 2 subpic streams in the VTSI_MAT table of the VTST1."
"0 subpic streams are really used by the PGCs."
"Fix the number of subpic streams in to VTSI_MAT to 0?"

This is after you've played with it using IFOEdit? Because if the original DVD had no subs, after replacing using VobBlanker, it should still have no subs, and PGCEdit shouldn't see any sub streams. But lets assume you answered "yes" to the question. Is this what you then did to "turn on" your new sub(s):

Open the final DVD in PGCEdit, double-click on the movie in the left window, turn on the first sub (or first 2 subs) by opening and "Set". Make sure the slider is set correctly for the second stream. What it's set for depends on what you did with the first stream, and if it has a 4:3 or 16:9 DAR. OK your way out to the main window. Find the green reel of film icon along the top row of icons and click on it. It's going to give you a message about the number of sub streams changing. Answer "Yes", set the language for each sub stream, and fix the colors if necessary. OK your way back to the main stream, "Save" and test in a software DVD player.

That's what I always do after adding a sub stream to a DVD, and it always works. There's no need to use IFOEdit at all (and possibly mess everything up).

OK, it seems that you have perfectly understood what i 'm doing,
and i was expecting that after replacing with VobBlanker i wouldn 't have subs, but that 's exactly what i want to do. MAKE it have subtitles.

The process you discribed with PgcEdit is the one i did. I used IfoEdit to do the same job,
but still nothing. Both methods work for me as the first one does for you, but only when there are already subtitle streams in the original movie and i just change the excisting values.

What i 'm guessing is that with PgcEdit i 'm "saying" to the movie: "OK, i 'm putting you some
subtitles because you didn 't have any", but the movie cannot link to them despite the fact that
something tells it that it does have subtitles. And that 's because with VobBlanker i 'm using a
DVD structure that doesn 't know anything about subtitles.

Thank you very much for replying man, and i hope that you or someone else comes up with
an idea. At least to tell me if it is possible or not.

    OK FIXED IT!!

My friend manono, as i was writing the previous reply to your post, at the same time i was
editing for one more time with PgcEdit. I followed your steps exactly (even hit the green reel
of film) and magically when i played the movie with PowerDVD i could select the subs i added.
But don 't get too excited, cause i could select them but couldn 't see them.
So i used this output as the original DVD and did the VobBlanker process one more time and ...voila.
The subs appeared, with wrong colors, but its nothing for DVDSubEdit.

    That 's all.

Gosh, and here I was jumping up and down with excitement already!

The subs appeared, with wrong colors, but its nothing for DVDSubEdit.

Or PGCEdit either, as I mentioned earlier.

I'm glad you got it sorted out, after being frustrated for several days. Thanks for the reply letting me know you solved your problem.

OK what is the matter with you and PgcEdit, you 've got any stocks in the
    PgcEdit Company? (joking).

I have 12 program shortcuts on my desktop to do the authoring.
