    Howdy, hope you can help.

I will shortly be appearing on a gameshow, and so want to record the event and get it onto my PC in a format such that I can put it on YouTube or something similar.

I have a pioneer DVR-420H, and I thought that I'd very simply record the show, burn it onto a DVD-R, put it into my PC, and then copy the MPEG file from the DVD onto my PC.

But I've just done a trial run, and when I put the DVD-R into my computer (which has a DVD burner and I've used to write to the same discs that I'm recording on my pioneer with) the disc shows up as empty, and it only gives me options to write new files to the disc, rather than play / view what's on it.

Any ideas? Can I get my video file off my DVD recorder and onto my PC in this way? And why is it showing up as empty (not even kicking in the DVD player software and playing the recording)?

    Many many thanks in advance.

I have a Pioneer 520H. On my machine you have to opitions for burning backup from the harddrive. VRmode and Videomode.
Use the videomode for using the DVDdisk on other players.

Buring DVD is a 2 step process.
    1. Burn the disk with the files as usual.
    2. After >(On my player) > Home/meny > disk setup > finalize (videomode)
(for closing the DVD, then you can use it on other dvdplayers.)

VR mode are used for more advanced editing of the recordings.

I hope this help you a little or give you a hint to solve the problem.

Oh wow - absolutely spot on. Thank you for that!

I suppose it's too much to try and get it to just burn the recording as an mpeg file though? I'll have to now use some software to rip that file off the DVD and convert it to an mpeg?

Thanks anyway for the tip - very handy.
