I've just noticed that the AVI movie clips I get from my Canon Ixus 60 (Powershot 60 outside UK?) have a frame rate of 30 fps, instead of 25. I have the camera set to PAL, not NTSC, so isn't that wrong? I'm worried that it might cause problems when I include such clips in DVDs for playing on my TV, although those I've tried so far do seem to display OK.

The PAL and NTSC is just probably for video output to a tv. Can't you change FPS? but probably no 25 fps option...
But some video encoders can do good framerate conversion to pal like procoder.
Or just make a NTSC dvd...it will work on most european dvd players and tvs anyway. -
Format (PAL/NTSC) is only for outputting a signal to a TV. Full framerate for still cameras is 30fps, some will also allow do 15 fps at lower resolution.
Why - because they expect you to buy a DV camera to capture DV. Video on still cameras is a novelty not meant for producing quality video.Read my blog here.
