Capturing video on AIW 9800

I've notced that several people are running AIW cards and using MMC, so I'm hoping someone can help me.

My system is an Athlon 64 3200 with 512Mb of Ram. I'm using an AIW 9800 with MMC 9.06 and I capture TV from Composite to an 80Gb ATA HDD which also runs the OS which is Win XP Pro SP2.

I'm having problems with bitrates, I capture directly to DivX 6.2 or MPEG-2 using several MMC presets dependant on the program and it's length, however, when recording, the resulting bitrate does not match against the values in the preset.

For example I'm using the DVD preset which is Target=8.0 and Max=8.0, recorded files are about 3.0-3.25. Today I recorder 2.5 hours of TV using this preset. The output file is 3200Mb and the bitrate is reported as 2741kbps.

I also have a DIVX preset that is 3.5/4.0 and produces a 1200Mb file for an 1 hours TV, a second preset 4.0/4.5 produces a 800Mb file for an hour!

Any help really appreciated.

Sorry should have said I capture at 720x576 from a PAL-I source.
